Striiike Strikes Again With Their Fierce Feathered Brows

Fresh from the feathered brow mecca in Beverly Hills…STRIIIKE, indeed.

Fresh from the feathered brow mecca in Beverly Hills…STRIIIKE, indeed.

Lit from within, lit from without and the best darn brows to boot, thanks to Tyler at Striiike.

I think by now we all know that brows are the major make-or-break facial feature, but, thanks to Kristie Streicher and her Striiike crew, my brows have never been fuller, stronger or more on point.

By just using their “Feathered Brow” technique of minimal tweezing and tinting, they are able to chart your brows on a course that leads to natural, fuller, truly feathered brows.

I went for my first visit in April, and just went back yesterday for my second visit. They cleaned ’em up in 15 minutes flat. By not touching my brows in between, and allowing them to grow along that course that Kristie charted, I can honestly say that my brows have never looked better.

Thanks, Streicher sisters.

You’re the only ones who could get me zig-zagging back and forth from downtown just to keep my appointment.

Suggestion? Make an appointment AHEAD of time! They typically book out about 2 weeks or so. A feathered brow visit is $120, with follow-up tinting maintenance available for $60. But, again, my brows looked amazing after 6 months, with NO follow-up tinting! This time, I will be trying that out, though, because tinted brows look FIERCE.

*Fun fact? You might see fun folks like Amy Schumer getting their makeup done in there. Yep, she was sitting right behind me, and I didn’t even know until I paid.

Golden Globes Glam: The L’Oreal Paris Beauty Studio at the Beverly Wilshire

Between the year just getting started and me being a little under the weather, the first few weeks of January were slow. But they picked right up starting with the Golden Globes.

And to truly kick off award season in glittering, golden style, my fave L’Oreal Paris hosted their annual post-Golden Globes event this past Monday at the Pretty Woman-famous Beverly Wilshire.

Golden Girl. *Photo by Joyce Pan

Honestly, it ended up being one of the most magical nights of my life. Between being primped and pampered by the L’Oreal beauty team, chatting with Tom Bachik and Billy B, trying out the most delicious new products and tasting the most delicious cocktails and bites, it was my favorite kind of night…a FUN one!

Oh, L'oreal Paris - you always throw the BEST post- @goldenglobesparty...but this one at the Beverly Wilshire penthouse is the best one yet!! A night I'll always remember...

Such a delicious evening last Monday with L'Oreal Paris at theBeverly Wilshire. Can't wait to try all of their new products I went home with... *flowers by Floral Crush

Did you hear @JLo on the @GoldenGlobes say to Jeremy Renner “I’ve got the nails” when they were deciding who should open the envelope? Well, she sure does and it’s because of this guy. The man. The myth. The legend. Tom Bachik…and l’il ole me.

Tom Bachik!!

‘Tis the season for this reason…BEAUTY!!

The goods. Tons of new pretty products I can't wait to try!

Everything that glitters is not gold. Caught looking oh-so-serious in the penthouse of the Beverly Wilshire

The best surprise of all? As the valet brought my car around, I found a Sherrieblossom Icebox makeup organizer in the floorboard of the front seat, filled with L’Oreal makeup and skincare and haircare galore!

Look who crashed my photo! Even Miss Ellie is in awe of the oodles of L'Oreal hair & beauty goodies I got on Monday!! And a Sherrieblossom Icebox beauty organizer to boot! L'Oreal truly gives the best gifts. Thank you, L'Oreal!!

All of those gorgeous goodies are gonna leave this golden girl feelin’ pretty golden for a while now.

Gonna be feelin' golden all award season long...

Thanks so much for a beautiful night, L’Oreal!

A Festive Fête Full of Heart: Cocktails With Caravents at Mr. C Beverly Hills

Is there any gift more rewarding than the gift of giving back?
Not in my book.

Photobooth fun at Mr. C Beverly Hills

So I was delighted a few weeks ago when Caravents invited me to their #CocktailsWithCaravents holiday party (co-hosted by Sazan Barzani and Sheryl Luke) benefitting Dress For Success.

Not only was it a meaningful night, but it was a beautiful one to boot, thanks to the delicate details that Caravents is famous for.

Mingling and merriment occurred. Photo Credit: @paigejonesphoto for #Caravents

To welcome us at the exquisite Mr.C Beverly Hills, we were greeted with mulled wine and roasted chestnuts.

Chestnuts roasting by..a brass punchbowl of mulled wine? I'll take it.

Then, there was – of course  – photobooth fun.

Photobooth fun at #CocktailsWithCaravents

Another round of cocktails by Mr. C Beverly Hills, featuring Absolot Elyx – the oh-so-delicious cranberry ”Holiday-Thyme” cocktails that we couldn’t stop staring at and sipping.

And, as if the evening wasn’t gift itself on its own, we were given luxe, overflowing Gift Bags By Rachael.

To cap things off? How about cookies and milk and mini ice cream cones?

Sweets as nightcaps Photo Credit: @paigejonesphoto for #Caravents

The sweetest of all though was that, thanks to the generosity of all the guests, they collected over 250 pieces of clothing, accessories and beauty products to donate to Dress For Success, helping disadvantaged women gain the skills, confidence and attire needed to gain economic independence.

The collection of all that was donated in the lobby of Mr.C Beverly Hills Photo Credit: @paigejonesphoto for #Caravents

And it is such a gift to all of us who attended that we were able to use the power of our voices for good by properly kicking off the holiday season! We even raised awareness for Dress For Success by making over 2 million social media impressions over the course of the evening.

Thanks for hosting such a festive holiday fête, full of heart, Caravents!

Cocktail Corner: The Golden Globes Moët Golden Night Cocktail by Aida Mollenkamp

Oh, how I love award season! It has filled me with glee, delight, suspense and excitement ever since I was a tiny girl! So you can bet I’ll be glued to the screen this Sunday night to see who will be taking home the coveted Golden Globes this year.

I had the pleasure of attending a Golden Globes luncheon at the Beverly Hilton this past Thursday to meet and chat with Miss Golden Globes 2014 herself, Sosie Bacon.

Moët & Chandon were kind enough to share Aida Mollenkamp’s delicious recipe with me so I might enjoy it on Sunday while watching. And being me, I of course have to share it with you! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did on Thursday  – and be assured that I will be enjoying it again come Sunday!

To the Globes!

MOËT GOLDEN NIGHT

Made to celebrate the glamour and glitz of the awards season, Moët Golden Night is a decidedly sophisticated cocktail of cardamom syrup, pear brandy, and Moët & Chandon Imperial Brut Champagne. Garnished with a “fan” of fresh pear slices, this cocktail is the perfect sipper to toast the festivities.

Makes: 6 cocktails // Enough simple syrup mixture for 8 cocktails

Total Time: 25 minutes

Hands On Time: 5 minutes

INGREDIENTS

1/4 cup unrefined granulated sugar

1/4 cup water

20 whole cardamom pods, crushed using the back of a knife or a mortar and pestle

1/4 cup pear brandy

1 (750 ml) chilled Moët & Chandon Imperial Brut Champagne

2 small ripe Forelle or Seckel pears, for garnish

INSTRUCTIONS

Combine sugar and water in a small saucepan, stir to dissolve the sugar, add the crushed cardamom pods and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Simmer the simple syrup for 5 minutes, then remove from heat and allow to steep and cool for 20 minutes.

Using a fine mesh strainer, strain the simple syrup, discard the seeds and pods, and place the simple syrup into a liquid measuring cup. Add the pear brandy and stir to combine. (The pear-cardamom simple syrup mixture can be made up to 2 days ahead and the Asian pears can be peeled up to 2 hours ahead.)

Just before serving, cut the pear off the core and slice pear lengthwise into 1/8-inch thick slices. (Separate slices into stacks of three and spread slightly to make a fan. If cutting slices ahead of serving time, coat them with a little lemon juice to prevent them from browning.)

To serve, add 1/2 ounce of the pear-cardamom simple syrup mixture to 6 white wine glasses or 6 Champagne coupes (this makes enough syrup for 8 cocktails). Add 4 ounces of chilled Moët & Chandon Imperial Brut Champagne to each glass, filling each glass about halfway. Garnish each glass with three pieces of fanned pear slices and serve.

Perfect pairing of pear, cardamom, brandy & bubbly

A Southern Girl’s Guide To LA: Assembly Salon – the ultimate “Primping Salon”

When it comes to blow-dry/makeup salons – or as I call them, “primping salons” – I must admit that I’m a little like our old friend, Goldlilocks. There’s always something great about each one but it goes something like this:
This one’s not customer-friendly. The parking’s hard here. There aren’t enough available appointments. They serve mimosas but the blowouts are only so-so. Blah, blah, blah.

Well, Goldilocks has finally found her JUUUUUST RIGHT home for primping.

Assembly Salon located in the heart of Beverly Hills has everything I want. Attentive customer service, stylists and makeup artists who really know what they’re doing and an attentive owner in Jessica who really cares about her clients.

Not only do they do beautiful blowouts but they also have a braid and ponytail bar, makeup & lash application and manicures! Yep, it’s the entire primping experience all in one place. For a busy girl-about-town like me, this is a DREAM, I tell ya!

Every time I leave there, I feel like Jaclyn Smith meets…

Channeling my inner Charlie's Angel thanks to Dee at Assembly...

Farrah Fawcett meets…

Channeling Farrah...

…Cindy Crawford. Wait, that’s dating myself, isn’t it? Oh well. I’m turning’ 36 in 16 days, people. What can I say?

Best of all, I love going and getting a relaxing scalp massage by Dee and then multitasking by sitting in the chair type-type-typing away on my pieces while I get my hair all gorgified for the evening! Yep, they have Wi-Fi, Goldilocks!!

Another tip? I multitaskby getting work done while Dee gorgifies me! Dee is AMAAAAAZING!

So I had to share with you guys that they’re having a Sparkle & Mingle holiday party tonight!! And – even better than that? They have a slew of holiday specials going on right now! Come on out tonight and find out all about ’em! I’ll be there with…you guessed it…jingle bells on!!

Saturday Social Hour: BHLDN Launch Party at Anthropologie in Beverly Hills

I should be the poster child for Anthropologie. Really. It’s become a joke with my stylish, fashionista friends that they don’t even need to ask who I’m wearing because it’s either from Anthropologie or it’s vintage. So when I was invited to attend the launch party/open house event of BHLDN‘s (pronounced Beholden) first west coast wedding shop at Anthropologie in Beverly Hills, there was nothing that could have kept me away.

Hosted by Late Afternoon and Eat.Sleep.Wear, this party was done right.

BHLDN – with the style of sensibility of their Anthro days – is unique in that it scours the earth for fab finds that you might not find on your own. They travel the world in search of emerging designers, superior craftsmanship, and cultural significances which they find to be sublimely relevant. Choosing only products that delight and inspire them, their offerings include a thoughtfully edited collection of wedding dresses, bridesmaids’ frocks, accessories, sparkly baubles, meticulously crafted veils, show-stopping shoes and décor created for the bride who seeks something a bit different. Plus, their collection of party and event dresses is second to none. So float on over to BHLDN on the upper floor of Anthropologie Beverly Hills and see what slice of heaven you might find.

Foodie Friday: Danke BierBeisl!

Welcome to BierBeisl!

Dear BierBeisl,

Heading out on Saturday night with a couple of friends for a fancy dinner in Beverly Hills, I had no idea what we were in for. Thanks to you we had the best time! A night out with the girls for beers and sausage in Beverly Hills, who knew! I’ve never been a beer drinker but three little words from your bartender changed all that, StieglAdlerGrapefruit: half beer half organic grapefruit soda. How have I never had this before? I loved it! So thirst-quenching and the perfect suggestion for this lightweight.

Forgetting momentarily that I hadn’t come just for the beer, your amazing staff warmly navigated us through your authentic Austrian menu. Next destination? The perfect food companion to our beer – Kasekrainer! WOW, this Swiss cheese infused sausage was AMAZING! So juicy and delicious, the pretzel bread accompaniment took it over the top and we gladly devoured every bite! I kept thinking it doesn’t get better than this but you managed to changed my mind with the arrival of each dish. Our Austrian feast was both refined and comforting.

Home Cured Char ($15) with heirloom beets, pickled red onion, cucumbers, horseradish crème fraiche, tossed herb salad.

Marinated Duck Breast ($19) with white asparagus, kumquat compote and wild arugula, toasted pine nuts, broken balsamic vinegar. Beautiful dish!

Kasekrainer Sausage ($11) swiss cheese infused, light peppery, similar to “polish.” Tarragon mustard and fresh horseradish. My FAVORITE! So juicy every bite was a burst of flavor.

Original Vienna Schnitzel ($29) garnished with lemon and lingon berries, with potato salad. Razor thin with a light breading. Perfect with the sweet lingon berries and tart potato salad.

Asparagus Risotto ($28) with sauteed veal sweetbreads, meyer lemon, Parmesan, veal jus and tossed herb salad.

Creamy Veal Gulasch ($32) with homemade spatzle. sour cream, chives. The veal couldn’t have been more tender. This was SO RICH, I loved it.

Apfelstrudel ($9) with homemade vanilla ice cream. Flaky and delicious, not too sweet.

Stiegl Radler Grapefruit ($8) half Goldbrau/half all natural organic grapefruit soda, ideal thirst quencher and  low on alcohol and calories. I couldn’t stop drinking this. Turns out I AM a beer drinker!

From the moment we stepped in the front door we were treated to your hospitality. The staff was attentive and accommodating. They really made our night out special. The space is intimate and embracing and the modern rustic décor is cozy. I would dare say the kitchen is drastically smaller than most kitchens in this zip code. Still we were amazed at the attention to detail in every dish and the incredible flavors that were coming out of the tiny open kitchen.

To Chef Bernhard Mairinger, your passion for Austrian food combined with your extraordinary talent in the kitchen made for an unforgettable experience. Thank you for my introduction to Austrian cuisine. I left your establishment with a giddiness small children find in a toy store. Kasekrainer sausage and Stiegl Radler Grapefruit! I’m telling absolutely everyone how fun it was to discover BierBiesl!

Auf Wiedersehen, until we meet again!

With Love and Gratitude,
Rebecca

High-Low: A WEEK OF WONDERFUL WOMEN IN MY WORLD!

Wow, wow, wow!!! What an amazing week filled with oodles of fun with friends and wonderful women in my world!

The week started off with…The Oscars! I had a strange feeling that this might be my last opportunity to sit at home and watch (party invites, etc.) so I decided to take advantage of it. I had brunch and bottomless mimosas with my best friend, Suzanne Karotkin, who was visiting from Dallas and then came home, slipped on my favorite Jessie Steele cupcake pajamas and settled in for the evening with some Village Pizza and vino.

Super indulgent - Oscars Sunday in pjs with pizza!

On Monday, my amazing Mom celebrated her birthday so I did what I could from afar. I prettily packaged her favorite coconut cupcakes from Joan’s on 3rd, shipped them to her in Dallas and then posted a few collages on Facebook so she knew I was thinking of her on her special day! I have the most beautiful mother in the world and I’m lucky that I get to consider her my very best friend and talk to her usually twice a day.

More important than loving me, she taught me HOW to love.
No small task for a parent in the world we live in.
But, thanks to my Mom, my world was a sunshine-warmed home filled with love, laughter, openness, communication and fun with no shortage of hugs & kisses and secrets shared.
If I am never lucky again in my life, I was the luckiest for being born into this world having her as my mother.
We should all be so lucky and blessed.

My beautiful Mom!

Mom - the center of our universe.

I was thrilled to welcome my new intern, Maddi – a student at UCLA, to my BeautyFrosting team! I was so excited that I organized one of my favorite Martha Stewart notebooks for her replete with a nametag. Yep, I’m kind of a nerd! I am so excited for the energy, organization, talents, ideas and creativity she is already bringing to the BF team!

Welcome Maddi!!

I was super excited to get to be one of the first to try the all new Dermalogica UltraSmoothing Eye Serum at their flagship store in Santa Monica. It was a lovely evening of pampering, cocktails & eats and treats! Stay tuned for more details on this awesome new eye treatment!

Experiencing the Dermalogica difference in Santa Monica

And this past weekend was a weekend filled with wonderful women that I adore!! Between dinner at Frida in Beverly Hills, wine & tapas at Covell in Silverlake and brunch at Duplex on 3rd, my weekend was packed with fabulous friends!

A wonderful weekend with some of my favorite women!

Then last night, I had the pleasure of trying out the fabulous Flemings SteakHouse in Beverly Hills. As a Texan-turned-Angeleno, I had been craving a steak like nobody’s business, so when the offer to try out this sensational steakhouse presented itself, I felt like the steak gods were in my corner! More on this deliciousness later!

With fun friends At Fleming's Steakhouse in Beverly Hills

After all this, I need a vacation from my weekend!!!! While there was much delicious food this weekend and even more delicious cups of laughter and dishing than glasses of wine, I am in need of a break from all of the social activity.

However, that won’t be happening this week! Too much going on to even mention!

LOWS

My sweet Mom’s birthday was a little tainted by someone being selfish. That made me a little angry, shall we say, as her #1 biggest fan!

And unfortunately, there was a second low. And ohhhhhh-was it low! My beloved, sweet pup Miss Ellie has developed a barking problem since we moved into the place we live now. It has come to a head because she’s barking for hours on end when I leave. I am meeting with a dog trainer who told me that I need to crate-train and stop letting her sleep with me. That hurt. She’s 8 1/2, y’all. I actually cried when she told me that so the trainer probably thinks I need a therapist myself! But I started doing what she told me to do and I’m hoping to see gradual results soon.

I’m really feeling for all of you parents out there. I mean, if this is hard for me, I can only imagine how difficult saying no as a parent will be for me one day! Wish me luck with this little challenge!

Miss Ellie's new "house" - :(

GBK 2013 Annual Pre-Oscars Luxury Lounge at the Sofitel Hotel in Beverly Hills

This past Saturday, I had the distinct  – and delicious – pleasure of attending the GBK 2013 Annual Pre-Oscars Luxury Lounge at the Sofitel Hotel in Beverly Hills.

An Oscars Cake! Photo by Amy Opoka

Besides being introduced to some amazing new-to-me products and walking away with a glam gift bag filled with products we couldn’t wait to try here at BeautyFrosting, I got to meet some of my favorite all-time male celebs!

It was such a treat and SO much fun!

And there was a SLEW of celebs! Just a few included: Penny Marshall, Chris Tucker, Steven Weber, Joey Lawrence, Camilla Luddington, Ashley Williams, Evan Handler, Chazz Palminteri and Tempest Bledsoe. Not to mention Jesse Williams and Richard Kind! Stayed tuned for those photos! I’m a little partial to ’em!

Then I ran into the legendary Sugar Ray Leonard! He was there to support The Sugar Ray Leonard Foundation – whose mission it is to raise funds for research and awareness towards a cure for Juvenile Diabetes.

Me with Sugar Ray Leonard! I was so excited! This pic is obviously by me & my iPhone

Just after that, I was tempted with the luscious libations of Viva Diva Wines, one of the fastest growing Moscato brands in the United States.

Luckily, by this point, my amazing photographer Amy Opoka had arrived! So before the “work” really started, she got a quick touch-up by the fabulous Robby of NVEY ECO. His catchphrase that I love? “Don’t panic! It’s organic!” Love that guy!

Robby touching up our amazing photographer, Amy Opoka, with NVEY ECO products!

And then we saw the super handsome and charming Jesse Williams, of Grey’s Anatomy, and his sweet & lovely wife, Aryn! Of course, we had to snap a pic with our fave Doc from Seattle Grace Mercy West.

Next it was time for a little chocolate. Thank the goodie gods for a mini sampling of Zoe’s Chocolate Company!

And as if chocolate wasn’t enough? Next, Cookie Daddy tempted us with their delicious gourmet cookies!

One of my favorite new-to-me lines was The Artisan Group – an elite, beautiful band of talented and innovative artists. I had the pleasure of receiving some gorgeous jewelry, hair accessories, photos and bath goodies that I simply cannot wait to try! And it’s the ultimate example of supporting small business & vendors!

Next? A little social lubrication was in order so I sipped a Skinny Girl cocktail. I left with a few of their Skinny Girl wines to try! Skinny and wine? Two of my favorite things.

Cheers to Skinny Girl cocktails! Photo by Amy Opoka

And as we left, I ran smack-dab into the talented and hilarious Richard Kind who could not have been more gracious.
