I’M LOVING: Estee Lauder Double Wear All-Day Glow BB Moisture Makeup

All-day Glow? More like All-Day GORGEOUS!!!

I love this new little secret potion of mine SO much that I even made a video! Check it out:

A BB cream that wears all-day long, imparts a healthy glow AND gives you SPF 30? “We’ll see about that,” I cynically said to myself as I tried my new Estee Lauder Double Wear All-Day Glow BB Moisture Makeup ($38) on for size for a big Oscars party, here in LA. And, see I did! Here are all the ways I know my latest secret potion can work for you.

Partytime: Double Wear BB made me feel like a star for entertainment’s biggest night of the year – The Oscars! From snapping selfies in the limo, to walking the red carpet, my skin glowed, without a smidgeon of shine in sight. I was in awe of how flawless my skin looked in photos from the early afternoon red carpet to the late night party pics!

My latest secret potion? Estee Lauder Double Wear All Day Glow BB Moisture Makeup

Dependable & Multi-tasks just like us! Double Wear Makeup is dependable, just like you. It won’t move, won’t run and won’t rub off. It brightens, smoothes and perfects my skin tone, all while offering that SPF 30 protection we all need everyday in our busy lives. A makeup that multitasks like I do? Yes, please.

Side shot. Flawless coverage. Gorgeous jewelry. Color me a happy girl.

Glowing on with Leeza Gibbons and Estee Lauder Double Wear All-Day Glow BB Moisture Makeup

As Lionel Richie once sang, All Night Long: With just a small amount, I was left with lightweight coverage and glowing skin, that lasted all day & night, from 1 pm ’til midnight. It brightened my skin, while also making it look flawless and smooth. Double wear, you say? I think it might be more of a double agent!

All-night long: Estee Lauder Double Wear All-Day Glow BB Moisture Makeup

Hey, Brides! It can give you that glow you’re looking for, without getting shiny or greasy. NO bride, bridesmaid or wedding guest wants that! On your wedding day, you should be your most beautiful version of yourself. It’s that simple. This makeup helps you do just that.

No-Blues Traveler: Estee Lauder Double Wear All-Day Glow BB is perfect for the traveler who wants to look polished and put together, without looking made up. Think of it as the makeup that Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly would have worn on their world travels. You get the light, natural coverage, while also getting your SPF in that’s so imperative on those adventures travel can bring!

Try it for yourself, and let me know how much you love it!!

BeautyFrosting Beauty Rituals: The Vanity Of It All

Where you'll find me - at some point - every day. Sitting at my antique white vanity, drying my hair, putting on mascara or lipstick, or trying out a new beauty product for consideration for segments and blog posts.

My beauty regimen was born at the tender age of 4 – as the ultimate girly girl – when I was gifted a vanity for Christmas, by Santa.

Is there any wonder I'm who I am today? Here I am, at age 4, being gifted with a box of….vanity!

Me. 4 years old. Sitting at my first vanity. It would not be my last. p.s. Love my mom's reflection in the mirror! I still keep a picture of her on my vanity!

Anywhere I’ve ever lived, I’ve had a dressing table: in my childhood bedroom (a cherry wood vanity), at camp, my high school bedroom (a white wicker vanity), in my college dorm rooms (I would turn boring sinks into elaborate contact-paper-covered dressing tables with my mom’s help), at the Kappa Kappa Gamma house at the University of Texas (where I made my tiny blue and gold bedside table my vanity in a tiny room I shared with 2 other girls – PRIORITIES!) and every home I’ve ever lived in. Some of my favorite memories with friends have taken place sitting at my various vanities.

I love sitting down and really taking a moment to apply my makeup. It's a little slice of luxury every day!

The antique cottage white shabby chic vanity I have now, I’ve had since buying it in Santa Monica at Sutble Tones with my mom in 2000. I replaced the red velvet chair I’d had for 15 years, with a blue velvet chair this year. Such an early (earrrrly!!) ritual I’ve carried with me.

How much of a ritual? Well, ask me to blow dry my hair standing up, and I’m useless.

This is probably the last time I applied makeup while sitting on the carpet.

To me, it’s all about that moment of sitting down, taking some time out from the busy world, looking yourself in the eye, investing some time in yourself, and pampering yourself a bit daily.

Seems like no surprise to anyone, then, that I’ve been named Beauty Collection’s first Celebrity Beauty Curator! But more on that later…

Golden Globes Glam: The L’Oreal Paris Beauty Studio at the Beverly Wilshire

Between the year just getting started and me being a little under the weather, the first few weeks of January were slow. But they picked right up starting with the Golden Globes.

And to truly kick off award season in glittering, golden style, my fave L’Oreal Paris hosted their annual post-Golden Globes event this past Monday at the Pretty Woman-famous Beverly Wilshire.

Golden Girl. *Photo by Joyce Pan

Honestly, it ended up being one of the most magical nights of my life. Between being primped and pampered by the L’Oreal beauty team, chatting with Tom Bachik and Billy B, trying out the most delicious new products and tasting the most delicious cocktails and bites, it was my favorite kind of night…a FUN one!

Oh, L'oreal Paris - you always throw the BEST post- @goldenglobesparty...but this one at the Beverly Wilshire penthouse is the best one yet!! A night I'll always remember...

Such a delicious evening last Monday with L'Oreal Paris at theBeverly Wilshire. Can't wait to try all of their new products I went home with... *flowers by Floral Crush

Did you hear @JLo on the @GoldenGlobes say to Jeremy Renner “I’ve got the nails” when they were deciding who should open the envelope? Well, she sure does and it’s because of this guy. The man. The myth. The legend. Tom Bachik…and l’il ole me.

Tom Bachik!!

‘Tis the season for this reason…BEAUTY!!

The goods. Tons of new pretty products I can't wait to try!

Everything that glitters is not gold. Caught looking oh-so-serious in the penthouse of the Beverly Wilshire

The best surprise of all? As the valet brought my car around, I found a Sherrieblossom Icebox makeup organizer in the floorboard of the front seat, filled with L’Oreal makeup and skincare and haircare galore!

Look who crashed my photo! Even Miss Ellie is in awe of the oodles of L'Oreal hair & beauty goodies I got on Monday!! And a Sherrieblossom Icebox beauty organizer to boot! L'Oreal truly gives the best gifts. Thank you, L'Oreal!!

All of those gorgeous goodies are gonna leave this golden girl feelin’ pretty golden for a while now.

Gonna be feelin' golden all award season long...

Thanks so much for a beautiful night, L’Oreal!

Making Up With Meghan Trainor

Last night I had the total pleasure of attending Meghan Trainor’s album release party, as a guest of Clinique.

These are a few of my favorite things: music by Meghan, Meghan-inspired cookies, beauty and champagne.

The lady of the hour.

The lady of the hour...

Meghan’s album, “Title” launched yesterday and Epic Records and Clinique threw a party in grand form to celebrate both the album release and their partnership with Meghan.

Clinique hosted a beauty bar upstairs, complete with their classic Chubby sticks in candy jars.

One of Meghan’s favorite Clinique products? Why their classic Chubby Sticks, of course!

From Runway to Real World: Fall/Winter Trends To Try, According to the Experts at MAC

If you’re anything like me, you love learning about all of the latest fashion trends, come runway time. But when it comes to taking them off the runway and rocking them in the real world, things can get a little confusing.

That’s why I take my fall and winter beauty cues from the experts – in this case, my friends at MAC Cosmetics.

I attended a little fall & winter trend preview last month with M·A·C Director of Makeup Artistry Gregory Arlt and Senior Artists Cynthia Rivas, John Stapleton and Caroline Donnelly, and for the first time, rather than feeling intimidated, I feel inspired! These guys just get it. As they should! They are the makeup masterminds behind many of the big fashion houses. MAC has been part of runway shows in 4 cities, over 250 fashion shows and keyed 26 of the shows and keyed nails at 30 shows. Their goal in the real world is always to make the woman look like the most precious, radiant version of herself.

The fall & winter trends are all about natural skin, working with the colors in your skin tone and edgy color placement on lips and/or eyes. And I’m here to give you the rundown before the holiday party parade begins. Consider trying out one of these trends in lieu of your standard party makeup this year.

The 4 major Fall/Winter trends, according to the Experts at MAC Cosmetics:

1)  OFF COLOUR

OFF COLOUR look #1 at Max Mara

Inspired by: Freckles and skin tone, this trend is all about deconstructing colors found naturally in your skin tone and in nature.

How it looks: For shades, think burnt reds, coppers and bronzes; muds, mushrooms and mosses. The mood is all about 90s grunge – moody and sexy like Winona Ryder in 1994.

OFF COLOUR Look #2 - mushroom hue on the eyes

How to: Focus on playing up and bolding out the eye, lip or both. Instead of firm bristle brushes, try working with soft bristle brushes for a natural, diffused effect. For a soft look, apply with a fluffier, soft bristle brush. What you wanna do is play up the colors found in skin or nature, so that they blend in easily with the skin.

Trend Tip: Rather than a standard, firm lip brush, try applying lip color with a fluffy brush to get a “washed” effect.

2) STREAMLINED

The STREAMLINED look at Kenzo

Inspired by: Tomboys. A vibe that’s grungy yet sophisticated. This look is all about sharper, statement eyebrows. They’re sharper and the use of navy blue is

How it looks: Really reminds me of Hunger Games characters in The Capitol! Super colorful and charismatic, this look was featured on the Missoni runway.

How to: Concentrate on eyeliners and eyebrows and playing with eyeliner a bit.

Trend Tip: Try creating chunky lashes from the iris out to the outer corner of the eye, and then pinching the lashes together for a doe-eyed look. For liner, try disconnecting liner by lining top and bottom but leaving a break between the liner, or applying a super thick, colorful winged liner.

3) ON REFLECTION

The ON REFLECTION look at Desigual

Inspired by: The glow of liquid gold

How it looks: Luminescence and glow; matte skin is paired with shine; hints of reflection with a golden glow

How to: Start with really shiny, glossy skin. Vaseline is your friend! The easiest way to try this trend is to sport some glossy, metallic pigment on the eye, using gold or platinum shades. Gorgeous with wine lips! And don’t forget some glossy highlighter on the upper cheekbone!

Trend Tip: Rather than keeping brows precise and polished, try messing them up a little with some clear lip gloss. Fall trend forecast palette – great staying power, not creasing

4) UNPROCESSED

The Unprocessed look at Barbara Bui

Inspired by: Ali McGraw/preppy girls. Not natural or no makeup, but real makeup.

How it looks: Start with full, messy, exaggerated brows. Think rosy cheeks and lips and highlighter.

How to: Apply clear brow gel, a creamy gilded gold with a brown undertone on the eye and a super nude face with a flash of bold copper eyeliner.

Trend Tip: For a little sheen, apply lip balm on lips and apply the rest on nose, eyes and cheeks

Reality Born of A Dream: My Jouer Spring Sirens/ Troy Jensen Iconic Muses Shoot

Dear Jouer Cosmetics & Troy Jensen,
This is my love letter to you. Thank you for an amazing day on which I felt that my inner beauty was embraced just as much as the outer – and for making me feel truly, truly like an icon. It was a reality born of a dream and this dream-come-true has changed me forever. How? It’s made me believe that dreams do indeed come true and to never doubt the power of the dreams of your childhood. They are more potent than we know.

xoxo,
Dawn

Yours truly as one of Troy Jensen's Iconic Muses for the Jouer Cosmetics Spring Sirens Shoot - makeup & photography by Troy Jensen, hair by Nikki Lee of 901 Salon, makeup products by Jouer Cosmetics (** Specific product details coming up next week)

Dear Readers,

When one of my all-time fave makeup lines, Jouer Cosmetics – invited me to be one of Troy Jensen‘s  Iconic Muses for their Jouer Spring Sirens shoot, I replied with an enthusiastic “YES!” faster than I’ve ever replied to anything in my life.

Cosmetics AND cookies? My fave!! Jouer-branded treats by Sweet E's BakeShop

I mean, I knew the genius of Troy’s work (his bevy of celeb clients include Miranda Kerr, Elle Macpherson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jewel and more) but never dreamed that I’d be one of his subjects.

Actually. That’s not true. I have always dreamed of a day like the one I had last Wednesday. See, as a 14-year-old girl in Dallas, Texas, I thought I looked like a boy – like my dad to be specific – and was obsessed with beauty and transformation and how it could make me become anybody else instead of the uncomfortable, insecure, cheesy 14-year-old that I was.

Allure magazine was my bible and Troy’s dear friend, Kevyn Aucoin was my god. I learned so much about beauty, women’s insecurities & strengths – and about myself – in those pages that I could have never learned in school. As professors, my parents wondered how on earth this useless knowledge would ever be helpful – but they continued to pay for the annual subscription because they saw my passion and they encouraged anything I was passionate about. Well, they needn’t wonder anymore if it was useless.

Back to last Wednesday. Shooting with Troy – as one of his Iconic Muses – for the Jouer Spring Sirens campaign was one of the most magical days of my life. Take Cinderella and Carrie Bradshaw, add in a double dose of my 14-year-old dream self and that’s what it was.

Before the transformation in my favorite new Hello Apparel tank!

Nikki Lee of 901 Salon took my yesterday-washed hair and added curls, volume and va-va-va-voom.

Nikki Lee's gorgeous work - curls for days & va-va-va-voom volume (and a few flowers in my hair courtesy of Troy)

After playing dress-up – and getting to try on a slew of gowns, I was dressed in a gorgeous gown from For The Stars Fashion House.

Playing dress-up with For The Stars Fashion House at the Jouer Spring Sirens / Troy Jensen Iconic Muses Shoot

Troy – the most amazing makeup artist, visionary and photographer dynamo – took one look at me and said he was inspired by Linda Evangelista, circa 1992.

Troy was inspired by Linda Evangelista circa 1992 for my supermodel siren look. Thank you, Inspiration. Thank you.

He ended up transforming me into his vision of Linda meets Cindy Crawford meets Monica Bellucci meets Sophia Loren – or as Troy said, “Linda Cindy Sophia Monica Evangelista.”

You want a supermodel? Well, I'm not one. But I can TRY to give you that supermodel pout!

They also said I looked like Demi Moore so um, thanks for including all of my icons from every decade. I’ll take it. Actually, I’ll take all of it. Because it’s not just the kind words and the magic you offered me that made this the most memorable day but the fact that I truly got to live out a lifelong fantasy.

Being adorned with roses by the inimitable Troy Jensen

Thank you for making my inner 14-year-old’s dream come true. I couldn’t have dreamed a dream this delicious. And I cannot thank Troy JensenChristina ZilberMeg Young and Jouer enough. I am so honored.

Selfie time! With the Founder & Creative Director of Jouer Cosmetics, Christina Zilber - whose external beauty is only matched by her internal beauty

Selfie time continues with the amazing Troy Jensen!

To your dreams coming true…

xoxo,
BF

A Note From BF: The image with Jouer on it has some Photoshop magic but all of the other images are raw. I think it’s important that you know this so you can discern between the dream and reality. Remember, no one is perfect. No one. But you are perfect just the way you are.

My Current Crush: L’Oréal Extraordinaire by Colour Riche #101 Rose Melody

As Big Pun once said, “I’m not a playa, I just crush a lot.” Well, when it comes to products to make us prettier, I crush A LOT. But it’s not too, too often that I fall head over heels in love.

But folks it’s happened.

I’m in love with My Current Crush: L’Oréal Extraordinaire by Colour Riche #101 Rose Melody ($9.99). And it’s serious to the point that if they discontinued this formula or shade, I would cry.

My Current Crush: L'Oréal Extraordinaire by Colour Riche #101 Rose Melody

So why do I love this little golden tube so much?
Well, it gives gorgeous, hydrating color while micro-oils hydrate and plump the lips. My lips look fuller, plumper and just, um, sexy. Rather than the color sitting on the lips or bleeding into fine lines, the color actually soaks into the lips so you’re just left with moisturized, plumped, soft, smooth little pillows of lips. Perfect for kissing, of course!
And this color?? It’s like a soft rose meets the perfect nude so it’s gooooorgeous with a sultry, smoky eye!

I love this little golden tube...

Another way I know it’s a winner? I was wearing it in a pic in a post below about eyeshadow and I got tons of comments asking what my lip color was. So, naturally, I had to share.
And best yet? At $9.99, it doesn’t break the bank!

I declare that it’s the most bang for your beauty buck at this moment! Getcha’ some!

xoxo,
BF
