A Festive Fête Full of Heart: Cocktails With Caravents at Mr. C Beverly Hills

Is there any gift more rewarding than the gift of giving back?
Not in my book.

Photobooth fun at Mr. C Beverly Hills

So I was delighted a few weeks ago when Caravents invited me to their #CocktailsWithCaravents holiday party (co-hosted by Sazan Barzani and Sheryl Luke) benefitting Dress For Success.

Not only was it a meaningful night, but it was a beautiful one to boot, thanks to the delicate details that Caravents is famous for.

Mingling and merriment occurred. Photo Credit: @paigejonesphoto for #Caravents

To welcome us at the exquisite Mr.C Beverly Hills, we were greeted with mulled wine and roasted chestnuts.

Chestnuts roasting by..a brass punchbowl of mulled wine? I'll take it.

Then, there was – of course  – photobooth fun.

Another round of cocktails by Mr. C Beverly Hills, featuring Absolot Elyx – the oh-so-delicious cranberry ”Holiday-Thyme” cocktails that we couldn’t stop staring at and sipping.

And, as if the evening wasn’t gift itself on its own, we were given luxe, overflowing Gift Bags By Rachael.

To cap things off? How about cookies and milk and mini ice cream cones?

The sweetest of all though was that, thanks to the generosity of all the guests, they collected over 250 pieces of clothing, accessories and beauty products to donate to Dress For Success, helping disadvantaged women gain the skills, confidence and attire needed to gain economic independence.

And it is such a gift to all of us who attended that we were able to use the power of our voices for good by properly kicking off the holiday season! We even raised awareness for Dress For Success by making over 2 million social media impressions over the course of the evening.

Thanks for hosting such a festive holiday fête, full of heart, Caravents!

My 37th 70s Soirée

Another year has rolled around, and you know what that means…another birthday party!

Blowing out the candles of my dream cake

I love a theme party and I have one every year to celebrate each trip around the sun.

This year, I decided to dress up as the strongest woman I could think of to motivate me for the upcoming 37th year: Wonder Woman.

We are all Wonder Women. And we only get more wondrous as the years progress.

The beautiful custom costume was designed by Christina Maybin of Cirquelde and I truly felt like Wonder Woman wearing it. I’d like to think it was the perfect start to a powerful and passionate year ahead!

And you know we had cake! My dream cake was designed by my LA favorite, Hansen’s Cakes.

Hansen's Cakes designed this beautiful cake

It was inspired by my new favorite Christmas ornament that I bought at Rolling Greens a few weeks ago. They did an AMAZING job!

My favorite new Christmas ornament inspired what would become my dream cake!

And then the fabulous Takahiro Watanabe & Wendy came and set up their new photobooth, Intertwined Photography, and took some beautiful shots of my 70s-clad guests.

Talented chalk artist, Yumarie Morales, designed this fun table sign, that guests could sign with their messages of “I met Dawn…”, “One word that reminds me of Dawn is…”, etc.

It was a night I’ll never forget, thanks to my friends and all of the talented people who made the night so magical.

Wet n Wild More Kisses Event at Walgreen’s Hollywood

A few weeks ago, I had one heckuva crazy busy day – 2 interviews and seven events in one single day! Yep. Crazy. But I’m so happy that to start that crazy day off, I got to attend the Wet n Wild More Kisses event at the Walgreen’s flagship store here in Hollywood.

It was a celebration to promote the partnership of Wet n Wild and Walgreens as the official sponsors of the “More Kisses” campaign to benefit the American Cancer Society, the official sponsor of birthdays.

25 cents of every sale of Wet n Wild’s Think Pink lipstick (pictured below) will be contributed to this inspiring cause.

Using the iconic portrait, “Kissing The War Goodbye,” featuring an image of a nurse and sailor kissing outside the Walgreens location in Times Square as inspiration, the event repeatedly recreated that iconic kiss by inviting all guests in attendance to kiss their loved ones outside the Hollywood Walgreens.

Wet n Wild’s global beauty ambassador, Fergie, acted as the Grand Marshal of the Kiss, counting down the event amongst guests, press, and celebrity friends. It was like New Years in August!

Not only did I get to see my old friend, Fergie again (looking glamorous per usual) but I also had the pleasure of getting to sit down and visit with a new friend, Italia Ricci of ABC Family’s Chasing Life as she donned her pretty pink in honor of the big event.
Check out the next post for the interview with Italia!

Weekend Wanderlust: Kelly Golightly & L*Space Swimwear’s Flamingo Fiesta

What’s better than lounging poolside in Palm Springs on a Saturday afternoon? If you ask me, not much.

That’s why I was delighted to be invited to my friend and fellow blogger, Kelly GoLightly’s & L*Space’s Slim Aarons-inspired Flamingo Fiesta poolside glam event a few Saturdays ago.

Upon entering Kelly’s oh-so-chic and darling desert abode, I was greeted with a Lette flamingo macaron cake…

Venturing a little deeper into the deep end of the party, there were custom Skinny Girl & Nekter Juice Bar cocktails, towels by Tide and Pool, cute custom signs by Our Heiday and festive tablecloths by Elephant Landing.

The BEST part? I was tickled pink to get to wear 2 pieces from L*Space:

The Ruched One Piece (pictured here with my buddy, Swannie, again ($158) – a 70s-reminiscent one piece on just this edge of sexy:

And the Storm Watch romper ($180) – a little class with sass:

L*Space swimsuits & covers were coveted, cocktails were shared, sun was soaked (with sunscreen, of course) and laughter was heard often, as it should be. It was, truly, the perfect poolside fete hosted by our hostess-with-the-mostest, Kelly Golightly.

Thanks, Kelly!

High-Low 1/21/14: Saturday Tea Party & The Worst Kind of Unexpected

As many weeks are, this week was filled with delights and happiness and some sadness and fear mixed in there, too. Let’s start with the good stuff, as always, shall we?

HIGH: Saturday Tea Party Celebrating Friends

A "sprinkle" shower tea party on a Saturday…so lovely!

I spent this past Saturday having a sweet and simple “sprinkle” shower for a dear friend expecting her second child. Filled with friends, my Ginger Tea Punch, tea sandwiches, Porch Pies (getcha some!), homemade Texan chocolate cupcakes, champagne and more, it was just a perfect little Saturday.

Porch pies, cupcakes & tea, oh my!

I whipped up my signature tea sandwiches:

Cucumber Dill Cream Cheese on White and Zesty Southern Pimento Cheese on Dark Rye (usually, I use Pumpernickel but the store didn’t have it!)

Tea Sandwich Tower #1

And…Turkey, Mascarpone & Spinach on Wheat and Zucchini-Carrot Bread with Cream Cheese and a Butterscotch Drizzle

and...Tea Sandwich Tower #2

It was such a sweet day and probably the most relaxed and relaxing little party I’ve ever hosted. It was also a good lesson to me that sometimes more is not best and simple can be beautiful. Good for this queen of overkill to remember!

LOW: The Worst Kind of Unexpected

Life moves so fast and the mere movement of time makes it very easy to take things for granted. I was reminded again of how fragile life and health can be when a friend of mine was found unconscious in his home and rushed to Cedars Sinai for H1N1-induced pneumonia and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome last Thursday. He’s out of the dark, dark woods but he’s still in the woods a bit. And he has quite a journey of healing ahead of him. So, if you would, please keep Jake in your thoughts and prayers this week. And please, please get your flu shots and be grateful every day for the life and health you have today. I am preaching to you right now as much as I am reminding myself. We’ve gotta watch out for ourselves and each other.

Have a great week, beauties!

BF Asks: What was your High-Low this week?

*So what exactly is a High-Low, you ask? High-Low is the BEST & WORST part of your day, week, month, etc. I started this tradition with friends & family after I discovered it through a movie decades ago. Not only is it useful for reflection sake but it is also an excellent way to communicate with your spouse, kids or friends over the dinner table. By introducing this tradition to folks, parents have told me that their kids have opened up more and friends have told me that their spouses have become more communicative. Try it for yourself and let me know what your experience is!

My Current Crush: Tassel Garlands by Studio Mucci

Kickin' my heels up with My Current Crush…Studio Mucci

Once upon a time, a girl stumbled upon a picture on Instagram and fell in love. In fact, it was love at first sight! And, yep, you guessed it…the girl was me.

I'm in love!!! With whom, you ask? Studio Mucci, of course!

So whose picture made me fall so head-over-heels in love that I contacted the instagram account owner asap?

Studio Mucci. Yep, that’s the name of my current crush. I heart her.

And what enchanted me about Studio Mucci? Um, can you say everything? Studio Mucci – and its delightful designer & owner, Amina – add a dash of whimsy to any fête or home with comely custom paper decor crafted out of high quality tissue paper.

Custom tassel garland by Studio Mucci (beginning at $35/garland)

Whether it’s for a birthday party, wedding, kid’s party or just to add a little whimsical elegance to your home, Studio Mucci steps up the color and coquettish factor with a side dish of wow and wonder.

And they’re the best at getting you what you want when you need it thanks to their various, more-than-accommodating shipping options.

I ordered Studio Mucci tassel garlands (beginning at $35/garland) for my boudoir shoot and they MADE our set.

Studio Mucci dazzled our dressing area on set...

Lucky for me, the set just happened to be my home so they are still hanging proudly where I can see them – and smile – every day.
And this isn’t the last collaboration between Studio Mucci and us here at BeautyFrosting. Next up? Holiday tassel garlands for the holidays and for my big birthday shindig…which is right around the corner.
Yep, this is just the beginning of a beautiful romance.

The beginning of a beautiful romance between BF & Studio Mucci
