Friday Favorites: High-Fiving My Dream Team, Good Carma Studio

Celebrating a High-Five circle with my dream team – and the best team ever (Chrissy and Melissa of Good Carma Studio) – at The District in LA, after the No Kid Hungry Influencers Brunch I hosted.

Today’s fave? A picture that was captured as I was high-fiving my dream team, also known as Good Carma Studio, after our No Kid Hungry Influencers Brunch on Wednesday. (*Please Note: Blog post to come)

While it was a truly stunningly beautiful affair, I am even more proud that it was an event – full of heart – that accomplished what we set out to do: get out the word about childhood hunger and breakfast in our schools.

I am so thankful to have a team that works as hard as I do. Trust is EVERYTHING to me and I trust these women implicitly.

Chrissy Kling & Melissa Wallace, you are gifts—and you produce the best events to boot!!!

Again, special thanks to our sponsors Tyson Foods, Kellog’s and Citi for all you do to help eradicate childhood hunger in America.

Dawn

Friday Favorites: Hey Honey!

Hey, Honey!
Well, now aren’t you the sweetest?

Hey Honey…you sweet talker, you.

Hey Honey…you sweet talker, you.

I thought you were just a sweet-talker, but then I tried you, over Memorial Day weekend, and my-oh-my!

Your honey exfoliating mask applied super easily and gently exfoliated my skin in minutes flat. Although, I must admit…I was inclined to keep you on a few minutes longer, what with my book and vino right there at my left hand.

All I know is I’m plumb smitten with ya, honey, because you left me with smooth, clear, glowing younger looking skin, and as buzzed off you as I was off of my Cabernet.

Buzzed, but not just from the wine! That Hey Honey mask has got me feelin' goooood...

Friday Funday: Wednesdays at Sunset at The London West Hollywood

To me, Summer 2013 will always be about rooftop Wednesdays at Sunset at The London West Hollywood.

On the rooftop of The London West Hollywood reflecting on all of the friends, fun and fine tunes Summer 2013 has brought into my world

I imagine I will forever think of that rooftop – set to the sounds of Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” and Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” – as the frozen video of Summer 2013. And what a magical memory to have!

I have spent a few “Wednesdays at Sunset” at The London West Hollywood and each one has been better than the last. But I have to say the best one I’ve had yet was when I hosted a Rooftop Cabana Cocktail Party for my favorite blogger-friends a few weeks ago.

Hosting a cabana party for a few of my blogger friends at Wednesdays at Sunset at The London West Hollywood

Between the delightful conversation with my fellow bloggers, new friends meeting each other and delicious bites and cocktails, it was my favorite event of the year thus far!

The attendees at my Blogger Cabana Cocktail Party on the rooftop of The London West Hollywood

I get by with a little help from my friends...and with the help of the beautiful setting of The London West Hollywood

We snacked on seafood cocktail, BBQ chicken flat breads, the LA Street Dog and delicious marshmallow cupcakes and sipped Strongbow Mimosas which were DIVINE!

The delicious details at The London West Hollywood "Wednesdays at Sunset"

And with our soundtrack set to the spins of Infamous DJs, we were in summer heaven!

My guests included the Beauty Professor, Spoiled Little LA Girls, Skinny Fat Girl Diary, Jennifer Chan of E!, Rose Curiel of E!, Whitney Lader of hoopLA, Hostess Handbook, Elle contributor Ashley Terrill, Jessica Yudin of The Fetch Betch LA & FabFitFun and more!

And everyone was delighted to receive L’Oreal Paris giftbags courtesy of L’Oreal Paris USA and Corbis Entertainment!

Jess Garvey of Hostess Handbook (on left) with her luxe L'Oreal Paris USA gift bag!

I want to extend a special THANK YOU to our gracious hosts, The London West Hollywood (of course!) and my fairy godmother, Gina Wade Creative. This wouldn’t have been possible without your imagination, generosity and amazing service  – not to mention – the most fab hotel, and rooftop, in town!

I'm always smiling at The London West Hollywood!

‘Til next time, my beloved London…

BF Asks: What defines Summer 2013 to you?

Monday Gratitude: Light a candle and burn the fear away! Thank you, Matt Marr!

Host, comedian, actor, counselor and life coach, Matt Marr, is not only a good friend and neighbor to me but he is also one of my biggest daily doses of inspiration.

Matt Marr - a little like St.Francis. With Ebony & Ivory - his pup, Sophie Louise and my pup, Miss Ellie. The pups are BFFs but Miss Ellie can sometimes turn into Rachel McAdams from Mean Girls.

He’s one of those people who inspires you and warms your heart with just a smile and a “Hey, Sugar”. And he’s a champion of mine – and of all who know him – who believes in you and brings out the best in you. I’m so grateful to know him.

So when I was feeling a little nervous last week about some upcoming meetings, I called Matt. Rather than just giving me a few words and sending me on my way, he said he was going to come by on Saturday morning and we would have a little preparatory pow-wow. And boy, did we!

When he shared this bit of meditative wisdom, I knew I had to share it with you guys. We started with a brief meditation and we all know I don’t usually take time – or shut up long enough – to meditate. But it was the lighting of a candle – and Matt’s words – that  most helped me.

Light a candle, burn fear away!

Matt said to let all of my insecurities, fear and stress be burned away with the lighting of the candle. “This candle needs fuel to burn and we’re going to let the fuel be all of your insecurities and fears.” Every time I had a negative thought, he’d say “There it goes! Just burned away!”

After Matty left, I felt more confident, calm, self-assured and ready to take on my meetings full of promise!

Today as I did my daily morning gratitude and writing session, I lit my favorite Ruth Anaya candles. And as I did so, I said this prayer:
“With the lighting of this candle, let all of my fears, insecurities and stress be burned away.”

Hope this helps you as much as Matty helped me!

Such a wonderful way to start a busy week!

xoxo,
BF

I love the FFF team and am so privileged to blog with their fabulous Ambassador Network! I couldn’t be more thrilled to share my fave finds with you fearless and fabulous FabFitFun readers! As a beauty and lifestyle blogger, I get to try a lot of products that help make us look and feel our beautiful best!

In In-the-Bag, I’ll share my favorites of the moment so you can know what you have to have. Now, a few of my favorite things:

Bobbi Brown Extra SPF 25 Tinted Moisturizing Balm ($52): For my dry, dull skin, this is my everyday, go-to foundation. I can almost guarantee that your skin will look five to 10 years younger. Yes, really. Each perfecting and light-reflecting shade seamlessly vanishes into your skin, leaving your skin smooth, plumped, hydrated, and glowing. You’re gonna thank me for this one, FFFers!

Beautyblender Sponge ($19.95): Whether erasing eyeliner, chiseling cheekbones, smoothing out sunscreen, or perfecting your pout, Beautyblender is my heavenly heroine of the moment. Its unique pink egg-shaped design rolls on the skin to smooth away harsh makeup lines, leaving a flawless finish. I love to apply my blush, bronzer, and highlighter, and then go in with my little pink friend and perfect it.

Kai Fragrance Oil ($48): Whether wearing it on its own or layering it with other favorite fragrances, Kai is an essential. It smells like a Southern summer with its delicate recipe of gardenia and white flowers. It enters the room when I do – not a second before. And it never overstates. If Kai were an adjective, it would be graceful. Kai is the Audrey Hepburn of fragrances, helping me to smell like a lady, whether I’m feeling like a Jackie O or a Marilyn.

Trish McEvoy High Volume Mascara ($30): I have sung the praises of my first boss’ mascara for a while. The formula creates water-resistant tubes around each lash. And the 24-hour formula always looks glossy and freshly applied. Perfect for all-day wear, you need only to curl your lashes again to revive it for the evening. It lasts through tears or marathons (or both!), all while defining, darkening, and volumizing. Perfect for a low-maintenance lady, it washes off effortlessly with water. Yep, you read that right — water. Easy to apply and even easier to remove, it’s a forever fave for me.

Mustela Multi-sensory Bubble Bath ($10): So maybe this multi-sensory bubble bath was formulated for a baby’s delicate and sensitive skin. Hey, who you callin’ a baby? I love the stuff. It’s a magical potion perfect for my nightly bath. Rich in marine extracts, its soothing scent deeply relaxes me, helps me wash away any remaining stress of the day, and helps me sleep…well, like a baby. Baby, I’m yours.

Rouge Bunny Rouge Long-Lasting Lip Pencil and Lip Liner in Leif ($23): I love a neutral, metallic nude. A bit of bronze with a hint of plum and pink, this Rouge Bunny Rouge lip liner makes any lip gloss or lipstick pop. And it gives your lips beautiful, believable, rich definition while blending in with all shades. Perfectly paired even with lip balm, it’s sure to please!

Friday Favorite: Angeleno Magazine Poolside Beauty Event

It was the fondest, most fabulous farewell a summer could ask for!

Dawn McCoy, London Hotel West Hollywood, Photo by Amy Opoka

Walking onto the rooftop of the London Hotel West Hollywood this past Tuesday, for Angeleno Magazine’s Poolside Beauty Event, I was greeted by the best of beauty – and the beautiful.

Treatments and treats were being offered to photographer Amy Opoka and I from every direction. Cocktails, sushi, manis, pedis, mini oxygen facials, makeup & lash applications, fashion shows and more. Here’s a gorgeous little glimpse:

Cocktail Waiter: “Would you like a VeeV Cosmo or Lemonade?” (Yes, please! Off to a good start!)

Givenchy: Would you like to experience our fragrance, Dahlia Noir? (I would love to!!)

GLAMGLOW: “Have you tried GLAMGLOW?” (I have, I’ve gushed about it on my blog, I love it and I would love for my photographer to try! So, Yes please!)

Burke Williams: “Would you like to see how your skin will look in 10 years?” (Ummmmmm…well, scary, but I guess I should? Thankfully, the future looks good thinks to major moisture and daily sunscreen over the past 2 decades. She actually says I have the most gorgeous skin she has seen that evening. Maybe she says that to everyone. Regardless, I smile and feel a tad bit better about my future. And I have a serious hankering for a Burke Williams massage and facial. My faaaaaaavorites!! )

Blushington: Would you like a makeup pick-me-up? (I’ve been dying to try you guys! And with the pretty-in-pink, gorgeous Emma Willis at the helm, count me in!)

Gold Grenade: Would you like to try our new DIY Nail art line by The New Black? (Yes!!! But I just got a manicure. No worries! I get to take a kit home with me thanks to the delicious goodie bag)

Lashfully: Would you like to experience the best eyelash extensions you’ll ever have at our new boutique opening on Rodeo in September? (Um, most definitely. And y’all are so sweet!)

Did you see Christina Millian? Jeff Goldblum? Vanessa Simmons?  (Yes!!! And see them? Amy got some gorgeous pics!! No matter how long I live in LA, the kiddo in me will always think it’s pretty fun to see famous people in my midst. Jaded, I am not)

The other fancy & fabulous folks included in this glamorous evening on the rooftop included Tom’s Eyewear at Kitson, Thread Eyebrow Threading, Vdara Spa, Salon by Maxime, Natra Rx, Gleam, Born to Glow Tanning, Dr. Glosman Dental, Robbie Lipgloss, LA SkinAestheticsand M Cafe.

It was pretty, poolside perfection.

I left with my head in the clouds, my heart in a flutter, summer in the rearview and bags of goodies in my hand.

What could be better than that?

Magic Mascara: Trish McEvoy High Volume Mascara

Helloooooooooooo lover!

Women say it to their casanovas. Carrie Bradshaw said it to her shoes.

I say it to mascara I love.

And I don’t say it as often as I’d like to.

But this Trish McEvoy High Volume Mascara is strong enough to be my man, er, mascara.

Trish McEvoy High Volume Mascara ($30)

Trish McEvoy High Volume Mascara ($30)

If I cry, it doesn’t smudge. I may run during a workout but I know it won’t. It’s dependable, reliable and sexy. And it increases my lash length and volume so much that you wouldn’t even believe me if I told you.

And then there’s the totally tubular aspect.

As a child of the 80s, I just love being able to say “tubular” without any funny looks.

And oh what those tubes can do!

Totally tubular lashes. I'm in love.

More wonderful than waterproof. Totally tubular lashes. I'm in love!

With each application, this game-changing mascara forms water-resistant tubes 360 degrees around your lashes. So high tech! The modest yet precise brush is deceptive because it really grabs lashes at the roots and lengthens even the most shy & puny lashes for the look of a naturally dark, lush and lovely lash line. Did I mention it adds volume, as well? What doesn’t it do?

Well, the just-applied-looking formula dries clump-free immediately (no messes!) and won’t smudge or smear as the day or night goes on. Pinky promise.

More wonderful than waterproof, when it comes time to say goodnight, the tubes gently and easily slide off with just warm water. Yes, you read that right. No makeup remover needed. Just warm water. You won’t have raccoon eyes and there won’t be a remnant one as evidence of your totally tubular evening.

I’m still in shock at how much I love this product. I’d tried the tubular mascaras of yesterday and they left a sour taste in my mouth and black rings around my eyes.

Not Trish McEvoy High Volume Mascara, my friend. This is MAGIC MASCARA!!!!

So much so that I just had to share it with you! This is the ideal mascara for brides, athletes, career women, moms and/or anyone going to a funeral/wedding/graduation or through a breakup.

I think that just about covered all of us, didn’t it?

xoxo,
BF
