Friday Funday: GBK’s MTV Movie Awards Gift Lounge 2013 at the W Hollywood

I had the pleasure this past weekend of attending another gift lounge. This time, it was GBK’s MTV Movie Awards Gift Lounge at the W Hollywood.

So you’ve seen a number of posts with me at these so-called “gift lounges” and you’ve wanted to know but haven’t dared to ask: “Um, BF, what is a gift lounge?”

Well, beauties, a gift lounge is an opportunity for companies to introduce or familiarize celebrities with their products. And, yes – as you can imagine, they are FUN!!

Some of the fun & good causes I got to enjoy? Sabra Dipping Company's delightful dips & hummus, Steps4Paws which supports dog rescue organizations, DJ Baby Chino rockin' it, Presenting Sponsor, Viva DivaWines sparkling wines & pinot pleasures, Cookie Connection complete line of cookies and My Life My Power - an amazing anti-bullying/pro-progress organization

And they are filled with celebrities and reality personalities.

My favorite celeb of the day?
Jared Gilman of Moonrise Kingdom!!! He was polite, charming, sweet and FUNNY! Loved meeting him and he was kind enough to indulge me with a photo.  And he was there with his family which made me only love him more!

Me & the talented and polited, Jared Gilman

Jared Gilman with all of his booty from the GBK MTV Movie Awards 2013 Gift Lounge

More celebs:

Celebs! Clockwise: Eva Marcille Pigford (my neighbor's cousin! Small world), Andy Dick and Sean Lowe, Ray Liotta and Danny Trejo, Patti Stanger, Chuy Bravo, Kristen Bauer, Robbie Jones, Dorothy Hamill and the amazing actress Quvenzhané Wallis!

And many times, there are also charitable components to these gifting suites – like My Life My Power (where I met the charming, smart and sooo helpful, George) and Steps4Paws above – and they are what really makes it all worth while.

The star of the show for me was the GUARDaHEART Foundation, a non-profit foundation dedicated to raising awareness of heart disease prevention by spreading the word to guard your heart and save your life, which was on site offering complimentary cardiac risk blood tests and promoting their savethe1.org campaign. I was delighted to see Jason Ritter presenting a check to the foundation with Aviir for $100,000 in honor of the 10-year anniversary of his father John Ritter’s passing. This is what made this event powerful and really put the gift into “gifting suite.

The talented - and adorable - Jason Ritter presenting a check for $100,000 to the GUARDaHEART foundation

I even got a blood test to see if I am at risk for heart disease. Since it runs in my family, I felt like I owed it to myself and my current – and future – family to know.

Now, I am a big baby when it comes to needles. I don’t faint. But my forehead wrinkles, my breathing halts and my heart skips a beat.

Getting my blood taken to see if I am at risk for heart disease. Why? So I can PREVENT it!

Luckily, the GUARDaHEART technicians were pros! Now, all I have to do is wait for the results which will take between 2 and 3 weeks and will be mailed to me confidentially.

So I left the GBK MTV Movie Awards Gift Lounge with champagne, cookies and a clear conscience that I’m doing all that I can when it comes to my heart health by eating healthily (90% of the time) and exercising daily.

I can’t think of a better gift than that!

Tress Tuesday: Selena Gomez at the MTV Awards featuring UNITE Hair Care

Selena Gomez rockin' it at the MTV Awards 2013

Oh, to be sexy, single and Selena Gomez! Check out how she ROCKED Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards in a gam-bearing gold mini and a mohawk braid!

Here’s the first-hand scoop on how to recreate this look from Selena’s hairstylist, Marissa Marino of the Nine Zero One Salon, using UNITE Hair Care:

STEPS

  1. To create the pompadour, section off hair from the front of your hairline and sprinkle it with the UNITE Expanda Dust ($25) throughout. Tease it back, using a comb. Next, pin this section with a bobby pin to secure it in place.
  2. Take the rest of the hair and make five small ponytails down the center of your head.
  3. Create a French braid using all of the ponytails together. (You can find French braid tutorials onYouTube.com).
  4. Spray the UNITE Session Max Hairspray ($29.95) all over to tame frizzies and smooth the sides around the hairline.
  5. To make the braid look undone, pull it apart and pin these pieces down, using bobby pins.
  6. Finish the look with the UNITE Max Control Hairspray ($27.50) to tame down any flyaways.

Just after that, I was tempted with the luscious libations of Viva Diva Wines, one of the fastest growing Moscato brands in the United States.

Luckily, by this point, my amazing photographer Amy Opoka had arrived! So before the “work” really started, she got a quick touch-up by the fabulous Robby of NVEY ECO. His catchphrase that I love? “Don’t panic! It’s organic!” Love that guy!

And then we saw the super handsome and charming Jesse Williams, of Grey’s Anatomy, and his sweet & lovely wife, Aryn! Of course, we had to snap a pic with our fave Doc from Seattle Grace Mercy West.

BF Asks: Which is your favorite Awards show?

Whatcha’ Wearin’ Wednesday, Julie Bowen?

Time and time again, on the red carpet, Julie Bowen shows us how fabulous 40 can look! 43 to be exact! And if this is any indication of how a woman can look in her 40s, I can’t wait!

Complimenting Julie’s sexy yet structured and sophisticated black leather dress, makeup artist Heather Currie opted for a smoky black cat eye and a soft pinky creamy matte nude lip.

Here are Heather’s steps to get this sultry and sophisticated look!

Face

  • Currie kept Julie’s skin looking dewy and fresh by applying Avon Be Blushed Cheek Color in Powder Pink on the apples of her cheeks.

Eyes

  • Currie used Avon Irresistibly Sexy Eyeshadow Palette in Bombshell to bring depth and smokiness to Julie’s eyes and added a little shimmer to pick up the glimmer of the jewels on Julie’s dress.
  • The inner rims of Julie’s eyes were lined with Avon Glimmersticks Eyeliner in Cosmic Brown, and the tops of her eyelids with Avon Ultra Luxury Eyeliner in Black. She then smudged the black liner into Julie’s eyeshadow to create a subtle cat eye and finished the look with a few coats of Avon SuperExtend Extreme Mascara in Black.

Lip

  • In order to create a romantic lip that would complete Julie’s look, Currie swiped two coats of Avon’s NEW Totally Kissable lipstick in Lovey Dovey on Julie’s lips. No gloss was used in order to keep the lip color soft and rich at the same time.

Tress Tuesday: Keri Russell’s Classic Cascading Locks

Once upon a time in a world we know well, a beloved actress playing a beloved character named Felicity decided to chop off her long locks.

The public opinion was strong and very divided. Some blamed the demise of the show of this single haircut. The cut became a lesson to all young Hollywood starlets from their agents about not cutting your hair without first consulting your team.

Fast forward 13 years and Keri Russell, formerly known as Felicity, is wowing us again not only with her acting but with her hair.

For the New York premiere of Keri’s new show, “The Americans”, hairstylist Brian Magallones created Keri Russell’s modern, side-parted take on a classic 50′s look.

Keri walked the red carpet wearing pair of leather pants and suede top by Alexander McQueen.  “I wanted her hair to look glamorous and appropriate for the red carpet, yet still modern and edgy to complement what she was wearing,” said Magallones.

You too can achieve this lovely, ladylike look at home in just four simple steps:

Step 1: Start by taking 2 inch sections of hair and curling them with a curling iron and pinning them up in pin curls.  As you are curling, spray each section with Aveda Volumizing Tonic (SRP $9.50) to add volume and hold. Use a 1 inch curling iron around the face for a more defined wave and a large 1 ¾ inch iron for the rest of the head.

Step 2: Once the pin curls are cool and set, remove each pin curl and flat iron the ends. The straight ends are what give this look that modern edge.

Step 3: Next, create a deep side part for drama, and brush the hair to relax the curl and shape the wave around the face.

Step 4:  To finish the look, run some Aveda Brilliant Emollient Finishing Gloss (SRP $27) through to add shine, and add a light mist of Aveda Control Force Hair Spray(SRP $26) to hold it in place.

Fancy Friday: Barbie Rocks Launch Party

Ready for a slice of glam?

On December 16th, I had the prime pleasure of attending Any Sarre and Layna & Alan Friedman’s Barbie™ Rocks 6th Annual “Pinktastic” Party in Beverly Hills.

Along with my friend, RedCarpetRoxy and over 150 guests, we were treated to a pinkalicious shopping treat!

It started with pictures on the PINK (!!) carpet!

Hostess-with-the-Mostest, Anya Sarre and BF

Once inside, the little girl in me was delighted as I saw, in the center of the room, a towering4-foot-Barbie work-of-art cake by A Wish and a Whisk! I was plumb giddy!

Then to my left and right were cake stands filled with deliciously cute cupcakes by Lindsey Sinatra’s A Wish and a Whisk!

Behind me was sinfully (and yet sin-free, somehow) scrumptious eats by Root of All Food. The beet and goat cheese lollipops were my fave, of course! Just look at them! How great for a kids party, bridal shower or baby shower!

Then I had pink streaks applied to my mane which left me feeling verrrry Barbie & The Rockers. They showed up much more vibrantly on Roxy’s golden hair.

Celebrity guests at this invite-only-event included “The Insider” host Brooke Anderson, Diamond White from “X Factor”, Chudney Ross and many others!

We also loved taking fun, frilly, feathery, fuchsia-infused photos at Rony’s Photo Booth! And many girls, of all ages, were thrilled to get their makeup applied by Ferro Cosmetics.

The hot holiday gifts of the day were the Barbie™ sapphire silhouette in Rose Gold and Black Diamond Necklaces.

And then there were the Mud Pie gift bags filled with cotton candy, Sheila G’s Brownie Brittle, a delicious top by District and many, many more!

Whatcha’ Wearin’ Wednesday: Beyonce at President Obama’s 2013 Inauguration

Is there anything Beyonce can’t do?  Superstar chanteuse, actress, spokesmodel, mogul, mom, wife and fashion and beauty icon, Beyoncé, sang the National Anthem beautifully during the 2013 Inauguration and everyone was left talking about her…MAKEUP!

Famed celebrity makeup artist Mally Roncal, who gave her this signature, showstopping look for this historical day, shares her beautifying tips and tricks with us on how to steal this lovely look.

Beyonce & her celebrity makeup artist & friend, Mally Roncal

1) To first set the skin, apply my Perfect Prep Poreless Primer all over the face and my Cancellation Concealer directly underneath the eyes.

2) To achieve natural-looking coverage, first, apply my Ultimate Performance Liquid Foundation. Next, add a sweep of my NEW Diamond Unpowder that will illuminate the skin followed by brushing on my Effortless Airbrush Highlighter and Blush Duo to the cheeks in order to provide a soft, radiant glow to the skin.

3) To achieve a rich, smokey eye – try my Evercolor Shadow Stick in Saddle Shimmer. Apply this all over the eyelid and underneath as well. Next, select a few shades from the Mally Beauty In the Buff Palette and sweep that onto the eyelids. Finish the look by applying a small amount of my Age Rebel Shadow Stick in Chocolate Diamond on the bottom lid right under your eyelashes to open up the eye followed by using my Lightwand Eyebrightener to the inner corners to instantly brighten this area. Lastly, to achieve this bold eyeliner at-home, try using the Mally Beauty Evercolor Starlight Eyeliner in Midnight, layered with the Ultimate Performance Ink Eyeliner (which is exclusive to QVC.com).

4) Compliment this confident eye by pairing it with a mascara that will enhance the overall look – such as the Mally Beauty Volumizing Mascara and/or my NEW Instant Impact Mascara. To create glossy, Beyoncé worthy lips try my High Shine Lip Gloss in Mally’s Look or Mally’s Baby.

5) And last but not least, before you leave the house, apply the Mally Beauty Face Defender to lock your makeup in place and Perfect Prep Hydrating Under Eye Brightener to make the eyes pop!

Mally notes to BeautyFrosting that anyone can achieve this easy-to-wear look at home. It works on all ages, skin type and color!

These essentials from Mally Beauty can be found on QVC.com and MallyBeauty.com.
