BF On The Case, Part 3: #SecretToGoodness – The coif caper is revealed…

I’m not an easy one to surprise…but I DO love me a good mystery!
So, when I was sent a mystery package a few weeks ago containing mystery hair products I was asked to try, I was both excited…and a little nervous, naturally.

But after trying the golden-bottled products for a week (and then deciding to keep using them even after the #SecretToGoodness challenge was over), I was pleasantly surprised and delighted at how GORGEOUS my hair looked!
It was fuller, more voluminous and shi-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-ny. And it didn’t feel heavy at all – but, rather, as light as a feather.

So when they sent those same products – but this time, thankfully, with the labels on them – I was excited to see who this coif caper was!

Well, I am happy to announce that the products sent by the coif caper doesn’t cost too pretty a penny. Here’s how it went:

My mom documented me opening the box…

The mystery is about to be solved! Opening the #SecretToGoodness Box...

And finding the box inside…

What in the world is this hair gold? #SecretToGoodness

And opening the box…

Here we go, here we go, here we go! #SecretToGoodness

And realizing that the products were Suave Natural Infusion Seaweed All Day Body Shampoo and Conditioner and Leave-In Foam!!

I was totally surprised! I love this stuff! #SecretToGoodness

Well, noooooow, this makes sense! The key ingredients in these pocketbook-friendly, pretty products are seaweed and lotus blossom! Ahhhh, now I see how it works! And,  so many of you will looooove this – this line of products contain no parabens or dyes. And best yet? It can be bought at your favorite drugstore for not too pretty a penny but for pretty, pretty hair.

So you can have beautiful hair without breaking the bank.

I went through the process of solving this mystery so you don’t have to. After all, with all of us beauty bloggers around to share our experiences, hair products should never be a mystery!

BF On The Case -#SecretToGoodness: Part 1, The Mystery Begins…

I’ve always loved a good mystery. I blame my mystery-loving Mom and Perry Mason.
So when I received this mystery box in the mail, I was excited to be on the case.

It's a BF Mystery... #SecretToGoodness

So why is this a mystery? A box filled with hair goodies to (hopefully) make my locks more lovely? What’s mysterious about that?

Well, my sleuthing compatriots, the mystery is that I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT PRODUCTS I’M TRYING!!! And for a beauty blogger, that can be a bit on the scary side.

But I’m excited. I have my Sherlock hat on, my magnifying glass out, a mirror and an open mind.

Let’s start with the facts, shall we?

Fact 1: I have a hashtag to use while on the case: #SecretToGoodness.

Fact 2: These unmarked golden bottles came in a cute box and are ready to party with my hair.

Fact 3. Um… Oh wait. Those are the only facts I have.

Anyway, I will be bringing you updates as to how the case is going, how my hair responds to the products and when I finally crack it (as in when the products are revealed to me).

So join me on the case, won’t you?

xoxo,
BF

In-My-Tub-Tuesday: Christine Shampoo & Conditioner by Van Thomas Concepts

Listen, it’s hard to find the right shower buddy.

As a girl who gets regular keratin treatments, it’s sometimes hard to find a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner that deep cleanses and conditions without stripping.

Well, I met a girl who gets the job done. Her name is Christine and she is glorious. Not just glorious though, she actually produces gooooorgeous results.

The blonde isn't Christine. It's Kirbie of PopSugar. Look at that shine on my dark hair!! Thanks, Christine!

The Christine Shampoo ($18) uses magical (well, I think it’s magical) micro-lather technology to deep cleanse – all the way from scalp to ends! Hair feels squeaky clean without feeling stripped which is exactly how I like it!

And the Christine Reconstructive Conditioner replenishes nutrients, oils and protein vital to healthy, heavenly hair without weighing it down.

In-My-Tub-Tuesday: Meet my new shower buddy, Christine!

Sulfate-and-paraben-free, it’s perfect for any cut, color or texture.

Yep, that is the truth about Christine. I’m utterly smitten. So smitten that she’s become someone I shower with quite regularly.

BF Asks: Who are you showering with these days?

In-My-Tub-Tuesday: Being Sexy Shampoo & Conditioner makes me feel SEXXXXY

I have been feeling a bit, um, sexier lately. Why, you ask? Oh, it’s lots of things – the changing of the planets, the solar eclipse,  the fact that I’m really starting to embrace being a woman and the boudoir shoot I shot on Sunday (stay tuned for more of that). But there’s also a product line that I’ve fallen in love with all over again. And it makes me feel sensual and seductive.

Being sexy thanks to Rusk Being Sexy shampoo & conditioner

Back in February, I used it and fell in love. And so did one of my Instagram followers & friend, @PurpleLynn: “@beautyfrosting Your hair is so shiny it’s RIDICULOUS!”.

My reply? “@purplelynn, THANK YOU!!! It’s a new shampoo and conditioner! And it works! Sulfate-free too! @Rusk Being Sexy!!” I realized that I sounded like an ad. And that’s exactly what I sound like when I truly love something.
Seriously, y’all, this stuff is gold. Rose gold (see? ‘cuz the packaging is PINK!). And it’s affordable to boot at around $15 – $24 depending on your store of choice.
As my Instagram comment mentioned, Rusk Being Sexy haircare is sulfate-free, cleans the hair without stripping hair of its essential oils and helps protect color-treated, keratin-treated or brazilian blowout-treated hair. My hero.
I’m also a big fan because it seems to prevent greasy hair and scalp. This leads to healthy, conditioned hair full of body, bounce, fullness and shine.
How does it do this? Through “Fision Hair”, a unique blend of ingredients said to help revive the scalp and hair follicle for healthier looking hair.
To be honest, I don’t know what that means exactly but I don’t care.
I just know that it works, all while being sulfate-free, and leaving my hair looking glossy and gorgeous!
Sexy indeed.

Friday Find: Kérastase Cristalliste

Long hair is lovely and I am definitely a long-haired lady for life. But when it comes to caring for long hair, I’m often a little overwhelmed by the amount of choices out there and underwhelmed with the results once I try them. Until now.

Kérastase Cristalliste for Long Hair

Kérastase Cristalliste is a line specifically designed to care for long hair. It promises to leave your hair shiny, luminous, smooth and radiant with a natural, lightweight feel. The unique Liquid Light Complex features an Anti-Oil Solubilization System – a dual system designed to trap and dissolve impurities, Anti-Dry Magnet-Like Polymers which are eco-friendly agents attracted to dry and sensitized zones, restoring evenness to the fiber’s cuticles protecting the hydro-lipidic layer and polishing the lengths (that’s a mouthful!) and an Aloe Vera Illuminator – a powerful natural moisturizer concentrated in essential amino acids and vitamins to enhance hair’s natural glow and shimmer. This all sounded great and Kérastase always delivers but, after a string of let-downs with my locks, I just wasn’t so sure that the results would live up to the pretty, pretty promises!

Well, after last Tuesday, consider me the newest long-haired devotee of Kérastase Cristalliste! And how could I not be?! I experienced the full Cristalliste line at Warren Tricomi in West Hollywood – with the lovely Whitney – and watched as my frizzy, dull hair was transformed into a head of shiny, luminous locks!

Experiencing Kérastase Cristalliste at Warren Tricomin in West Hollywood

Before Kérastase Cristalliste at Warren Tricomi and AFTER!!!

And, honeys, I’m in dire need of a haircut – as I’ve been growing out my locks and it’s been almost a year since I’ve had a trim – so if it can make mine look this good, imagine what it can do with your sexy strands?

The best part? My roots were as light as a feather and my hair had ooh-la-la-oomph when it came to volume. The blowout lasted three days with these fierce, fresh, featherweight products. And don’t even get me started on the sensuous scent!

Shine on, sister!!! You'll do just that with Kérastase Cristalliste

As I caught my plane the next day from LAX to DFW, I swear more heads turned as they caught a glimpse of my shiny head of hair. This single lady thanks you for that, Kérastase. And thank you, too, for keeping us long-haired lovelies in mind with this new line. The results are as beautiful as the promises!

BF Asks: Are you a long-haired lovely?

In-My-Tub-Tuesday: TRÉSemmé Keratin Smooth Shampoo & Conditioner – A Love Story

I am a big believer in keratin! Why? Because my hair is naturally curly (like Julia Roberts in Sleeping With The Enemy-curly) and my whole life I prayed for it not to be.

My hair is naturally a frizzier version of Julia Roberts' mane in Sleeping With The Enemy

Basically, my hair and I have been in a very fickle relationship for most of my life. An on-again/off-again love-hate affair. I admit it’s mostly my fault. See, I love my hair when it’s long, smooth, beautiful and bouncy but then there are the other days. The days when frizz is not my friend and my coif seems to be queen – treating me like a serf -paying no attention to my needs or wants.

The Frizz-Factor

I have tried – and loved – the Brazilian Blowout but missed the volume and variety when I was left with the stick-straight strands I’d always wished for. Then I moved on to the keratin treatment and my hair was shiny and lovely. But at $400/pop every 3-4 months, it’s an expensive option just to keep my ‘do frizz-free.

I was just debating what to do next when I had the  opportunity to try the TRÉSemmé Keratin Smooth collection (around $5.79 per product). I wondered if it would deliver the desired results both my coif and I craved. Well good news for my dysfunctional relationship. It did!

The caring keratin proteins infused every strand of my frazzled, frizzy hair leaving me with shiny, manageable and lovely locks for almost 3 days. Without stripping my hair of vital nutrients or weighing it down, my hair was shinier, bouncier and looked soooo healthy!

The lower-sulfate shampoo was gentle enough to use on my keratin-treated hair and the conditioner provided the lustrous results I longed for without weighing it down or making it go flat.

One happy TRÉSemmé Keratin Collection Camper!

I tried the shampoo and conditioner a few different ways. Washing with the shampoo and then conditioning with a dime-sized amount, conditioning my hair first and then shampooing and, lastly, washing with just the shampoo. Any which way you slice it, I was left with shiny, sensuous hair for just about $6 per product.

TRÉSemmé, you can count me as one happy keratin camper!

BF

In-My-Tub-Tuesday: Being Sexy Shampoo & Conditioner

Recently, I had a picture taken at the Grammy Glam event at The Grammy Headquarters here in Los Angeles. While I didn’t feel my cutest, my friend @purplelynn commented on the picture on Instagram: “@beautyfrosting Your hair is so shiny it’s RIDICULOUS!”.

Whatcha Watchin’ Wednesday? The Carrie Diaries & V05 Herbal Escapes Kiwi Lime Squeeze Clarifying Shampoo and Conditioner

While watching CW’s The Carrie Diaries a few nights ago, I was left not only missing Charlotte, Samantha and Miranda…

but also the 80s!

It was so fun being taken back on a magic carpet ride to 1984.

So when I took a shower that morning after viewing this fun new series on the elliptical, I was craving some 80s love.
Enter V05 Herbal Escapes Kiwi Lime Squeeze Clarifying Shampoo and Conditioner.
While the name might remind you of a bad experience with Bartles & James wine coolers (or a good one), the scent leaves you craving a fresh kiwi.
And the clarifying shampoo and conditioner really do the job they set out to do.
I had a keratin treatment not so long ago and my hair would just not rinse clean.
But V05 Herbal Escapes Kiwi Lime Squeeze Clarifying Shampoo and Conditioner fulfilled its promise, leaving my hair clean, clarified, bouncy, voluminous and shiny – without drying it out!
While some 80s products & trends should never return, here’s an 80s staple – V05, that you should definitely return to.
And with prices that make you feel like you’re in the 80s, you can be whoever you are – Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte or Miranda…just like that – with bouncy, voluminous locks!

BF Asks: What product do you most miss from the 80s? And, of course, which Sex & The City character are you?

In-My-Tub-Tuesday: Leonor Greyl Masque Orchidee

You know how all the starlets, in all of those old 50s movies say “Oh, I can’t go out with you tonight. I’m washing my hair”?
And remember how what it really meant was simply, “I’m just not that into you”?

Well, last Friday night my fabulous friend Meg, over at Meg’s Makeup, asked me if I could go out and have some quality girlfriend time.

I reaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllly wanted to. I mean, Meg is the most fun and I always have the most honest, heartfelt conversations with that pretty lady. She’s a dear friend.

But, after a few weeks peppered with intense stress, I had committed to myself that Friday night would be ME-NIGHT!!

So, thanks to a deal on YipIt, I treated myself to an amazing massage at Sparadise and came back home to sink into the tub to finish GONE GIRL and have a glass of wine.

But even when I was supposed to relax, I knew I needed to do a little beauty maintenance. I mean why not be productive with all of that time spent relaxing?
What beauty ritual could I give myself?
Enter Leonor Greyl Masque Orchidee.

Leonor Greyl Masque Orchidee ($60)

That’s Orchid Mask, in French, to you non-francophiles.

And what a beauty ritual it was!
I left it on for my entire bath (about an hour and a half) and relished the rare solitude as well   as the buttery orchid scent of the mask.

Buttery orchid, conditioning goodness

After combing through with my detangling comb and rinsing it off in the shower, I could immediately tell that my hair was softer, fuller and more conditioned.

It rinsed out completely and easily and, after blowdrying, I was only left with soft, shiny, tangle-free locks with a hint of that subtle buttery orchid scent.

I had to learn more so I looked at Leonor Greyl’s website. One of their testimonials was from revered celebrity stylist, Chris McMillan.

Chris McMillan actually said,  “Leonor Greyl Orchid Mask transformed Jen’s hair. The weekly treatment works wonders on frizz.”

Y’all, he’s talking about JEN ANISTON there!!! Among the many stars who love Leonor Greyl are lovely ladies, Salma Hayek and Gwen Stefani. I knew I was in good company.

As I marveled at my own movie star hair, I remembered that Meg, herself, had turned me onto the product. Ah, the power of our subconscious.

All was right in the world.

BF

In-My-Tub-Tuesday: TRESemme Liquid Gold Shine Therapy

In-My-Tub-Tuesday: TRESemme Liquid Gold Shine Therapy

In-My-Tub-Tuesday: TRESemme Nourishing Rituals Liquid Gold Shine Therapy

I know, I know – technically this should be called In-My-Shower-Tuesday but it just doesn’t have the same ring to it, does it?
You know what reminds me of a gold ring? (See what I did there?)
TRESemme Nourishing Rituals Liquid Gold Shine Therapy.

It’s like AFFORDABLE jewelry couture for your hair.

I know what you’re thinking: um, that’s a bit of a reach, BF.

I promise it’s not.

From the summer-fresh scent of TRESemme to the tiny, gold, sparkling, microcrystals in the golden treatment, this therapy is straight up sunshine in a bottle.

How does it work?

After shampooing your hair, you apply the TRESemme Liquid Gold Shine Therapy to your damp hair – concentrating on the middle to ends of your locks.

Leave on 3-4 minutes. If you’re like me, comb it through. It works beautifully as a detangler. Rinse. And, again – if you’re like me – rinse with cool water for extra special summer shine!

It’s a mini spa treatment for your shower! And I felt pretty pampered while I let it do its job as I shaved and exfoliated my legs. It makes any day a spa day!

When my hair dried (FYI, I let it dry naturally), I was amazed by my sexy, supple locks. The glasslike shine was gorgeous and I swear my hair seemed a bit fuller. It reminded me of that glossy hair that high school girls have. Know what I mean?

So, maybe, it’s high school in a bottle too! Only the good parts though.

And it’s got a high school-friendly price as it’s only around $4 and can be found in your fave drugstore.

Sunshine & High School in a bottle? Yes. TRESemme Liquid Gold Shine Therapy

Sunshine & High School in a bottle? Yes. TRESemme Liquid Gold Shine Therapy

Try it out for yourself and let me know what you think!
