Foodie Friday: Paleta & Sonya Dakar Get Glowing! Beauty Detox

I almost couldn’t decide on a title for this blog! Is it Fitness Friday or Foodie Friday? Well, it’s really both. You see, as much as I may hate to admit it, I am indeed a girl-on-the-go.

On-the-go for a 6 am call-time in Burbank with my Paleta & Sonya Dakar Get Glowing! Detox breakfast

And if I don’t watch it, this can wreak havoc on my body, health and skin. When protein bars and Starbucks lattes just won’t keep you satisfied, fulfilled or nourished, it’s time to look for another option, Los Angeles.

Lucky for me, I am an avid devotee of Paleta meal delivery.

My favorite Paleta treat - the magic milkshake being enjoyed by my painting of Audrey Hepburn by Jo Almeida

So, I was one of the first to hear about the beautiful new program Paleta has going with complexion powerhouse, Sonya Dakar – the Get Glowing! Beauty Detox ($229).

Each component – the nutrition and the skincare – will deliver dynamic results on their own but, together, they are a powerhouse. Being soothed by the skin-replenishing Sonya Dakar & Paleta

Speaking from personal experience, I felt detoxified, cleansed, rehydrated, energized,  lighter and wasn’t left hungry (an impossible feat in itself!). Bonus? I lost 5 lbs in 2 days after a wild weekend.

Best still? My skin was utterly glooooowing.

Glow on, girl...

Which was perfect for my appearance on Access Hollywood Live.

Foodie Friday: Pedalers Fork in Calabasas

Pedalers Fork in Calabasas

Dawn's Faves from Pedalers Fork

Dear Pedalers Fork Team,

BeautyFrosting editor, Dawn McCoy, and I had the delicious opportunity to experience a sneak preview of Calabasas’s newest epicurean jewel, Pedalers Fork. Whoever says you can’t have it all hasn’t been to Pedalers Fork! This is destination dining at its best! You’ve created a beautiful oasis for us to gather with friends and escape the hectic day-to-day, without having to pack a bag or board a plane!

A perfect balance of location and design, the stunning interior was inspirational.

Every window strategically placed inviting nature inside to co-mingle with the rustic reclaimed wood accents, and antique light fixtures. The vintage bikes perched in the rafters overhead are a reminder of the inspiration for this sanctuary you’ve created.

Pedalers Fork interior & patio

I was in heaven when I stepped out on the patio. Worthy of the “dream home” sketches I walk around with in my head, it felt like a cool tree house for adults, dining amongst the trees, watching the ducks, and listening to the choir of frogs singing the praises of Pedalers Fork. A truly tranquil feeling that reminded me to breathe, slow down and appreciate the moment. I felt the love that went in to every detail!

Your dream project is a bona fide triple threat. You truly have something for everyone. A coffee shop that brews fresh-roasted 10 Speed Coffee from Oregon for the early risers, a cycling boutique catering to the active enthusiasts, and a beautiful restaurant with a menu focused toward a health conscious lifestyle. You’ve really thought of everything! The use of ingredients from the best organic and sustainable local farms has created standout dishes that feed our souls as well as nourish our bodies, and allowed me to leave the table without feeling guilty. Ok, maybe a LITTLE guilty after devouring both the Berry Cobbler AND the delicious Flourless Chocolate Cake for dessert, but well worth it! Chef Dan’s extensive menu has a little something for everyone.

Whatcha’ Wearin’ Wednesday: Well in LA’s Erin M.?

I am a big fan of Erin M’s wellness blog, Well in L.A.. Her blog is a mecca for those who are healthy hotties in L.A. and those of us, like me, are trying to get there every day.

So I was thrilled when I ran into her recently at Fashion’s Night Out on Robertson. We had a ball – giggling, gushing and guzzling a little champ – as we bloggers tend to do. And I got the scoop on her goooooorgeous look! Here is our WWW girl – Erin M.

The gorgeous Erin Michelle of Well in LA & her ButterLONDON lips

BF: Oh my gosh, Erin! Your lips are like a video vixen in 1988. What product are you wearing? Tell me everything. And fast so I can go get it myself!

EM: I have a secret place I love to shop in Manhattan Beach! (hint: my signature scent, picturedhere, is also the name of the store!) The last time I was in the store the gals introduced me to a new product from butterLONDON. This Brit line is best known for their rich, earth-friendly nail lacquers and polishes. Well, ladies, get ready to be a little bit LIPPY I am beyond obsessed with their new line of richly-pigmented and ultra-moisturizing lip glosses.

BF: Tell the folks where this Lippy love fest all happened.

EM:  I debuted my LIPPY “Come To Bed Red” at FashionsNightOutonRobertson this year, where I was wearing a “neutral” palette of mixed metals and a dark gray faux fur from Hale Bob. Adding a red lip was the “icing on the cake” for the outfit, so to speak.

BF: I looooooove ButterLONDON Lippy. Love it! Stays on and color stays true through everything you do. Gosh, that sounds like a commercial.

The gorgeous hostesses of Fashion's Night Out on Robertson at Hale Bob

BF: Who are those gorgeous ladies with you in the pic? (I know but I just have to ask for you lovely readers out there)

EM: For the evening I was flanked by my very beautiful FNO co-hostesses, Sharzad Kiadeh of LuxLyfe and Celebrity Stylist LaurieGraham. Not to mention the incredible ladies who came out to party with us like Ms. Beauty Frosting herself, NicoleMyden and Whitney Lader of HoopLA (also featured on the WWW series!). I adore makeup, clothing and all the accessories, but there is nothing that beats being surrounded by fierce, intelligent female friends!

BF: How did you decide on ButterLONDON Lippy gloss when there are sooooo many products we are introduced to as an L.A. blogger?

EM: I loved the rockstar outfit I was wearing and wanted to keep the focal point on the clothes that were being provided for the eventbyHaleBob. But let’s be honest, there’s no need to shy from a little extra “pop” of confidence, even when we’re wearing an amazing outfit. For me it’s something small with a big impact, like my signature scent, a killer manicure, a brightly colored lip or even my favorite lingerie. Girls really do have more fun!

A gaggle of girls & bloggers at Fashion's Night Out on Robertson

BF: Would you wear this every day? Give us a little taste of your beauty philosophy, pretty please.

EM: I love to wear an outfit or makeup that makes me feel confident every day. I don’t wait for a special occasion or event. Why not make each day a little special? I do follow the rule of only highlighting one thing at a time, whether its an outfit, playing up my eyes or wearing a bright lip. Lips are probably my favorite to play with because its so simple to swipe on a bold color and showcase your confidence with every girl’s ultimate accessory: a big smile.

BF: How does wearing this product affect the rest of your routine? (i.e., “This is a bold lip shade so I like to go simple with the eyes and add a pop of blush on the apples of my cheeks)

EM: I try to behave and only have one piece “pop” instead of doing too much at once. If I’m just wearing my LIPPY red I keep the rest of my makeup simple – tinted moisturizer, a little swipe of ColorTattooEyeshadow (gold and bronze are my picks for blue eyes) and myfavoritemascara – and I’m out the door in under 5 minutes.

BF: Is this a signature shade/product for you? If not, what is – as they say in Steel Magnolias – your “signature color”?

EM: I think it’s fast becoming one! As a blonde with fair skin and blue eyes, red lips are a lot of fun to play with when it comes to makeup. I also love CovergirlsLipPerfection in Flame, which is a more matte lipstick (comparable to MAC but great for girls on a budget!). It offers a rich stain. So much so that when I wear it for a night out and wake the next morning I still have a pretty red shade on my lips, making running errands or going to brunch a little more fun on the weekends!

Thank you so much, Erin for being our beautiful Whatcha’ Wearin’ Wednesday girl today!

BF

BF Asks: Are you adventurous enough to try a bold lip this season? What bold lip are you donning?

High-Low 10

I have been swamped and my High-Low has become the victim of my busy schedule.

But it has been such an exciting, productive time that I just had to share.

Here is my High-Low 10.

HIGHS

1) I was thrilled to get the call that everyone wants from their agent! A booking call! I booked a national voiceover radio spot for UPS. I am beyond thrilled! So much so that my friend, Kristin, captured my excitement of receiving the news in this collage!

When I'm excited, I resort embarrassingly back to my high school cheerleading days doing herkies and high kicks.

2) Baking a successful new recipe: Sour Cream Apple Pie in a Buttermilk Maple Crust. Yum. Everyone at the BBQ said it was delish!!! I’ll feature the recipe soon! Stay tuned!

3) Seeing my favorite band, the Old 97s 2 (!!) nights in a row at the El Rey here in Los Angeles. They were here on the 15th anniversary tour of their album, Too Far To Care. Rhett Miller, the lead singer, grew up in the same Dallas world where I did. He was a coffeehouse darling who became a prodigy and now an alt-country star. I love them so much. My favorite band. Period.

Rhett Miller

The first night I went with my super fun friends, Jennifer, April and Sari.

The next with my friend, Jolie, whom I’ve known since I was a kiddo at the Episcopal School of Dallas. Jolie was in my big brother’s class and I always thought she was the coolest!

Me, Murry Hammond and Jolie

But there was nothing cool about us dancing like schoolgirls to Rhett and Murry and the boys… but do we look like we cared?

Dancing like schoolgirls!

Dancing like schoolgirls!

4) I also had an AMAAAAAZING time with my fellow LA bloggers and PR friends this week.

Melrose PR’s First BloggywoodLA event at BruHaus. What an awesome place and amazing people!

Nicole Myden & Gina Wade Creative’s “A Dinner To Blog About” at Rosa Mexicano where I met MORE amazing bloggers and had the most delicious food a Tex-Mex addict could enjoy.

The Angeleno Magazine Poolside Beauty Event – A luxurious evening of glammer & glitz on the rooftop of the London West Hollywood. The perfect farewell to summer! Check out our complete Angeleno event post here!

5) And lastly, finishing the first draft of BOTH of my children’s books. I’ve never written a book before and I couldn’t be more excited about these stories! It’s almost as good a feeling as being in love! p.s. I had a verrrry good assistant! She sits in my lap every morning when I work. I’m a lucky kid!

The best assistant a writer could ask for!

LOWS

Hmmm…I don’t have any this week! Wait. That’s not true. It was very hot and I don’t have air conditioning. Then again, being from Texas originally, 90 degrees is not hot. On second thought, Nope, no lows this week. Just gratitude and happiness!!!!

BF Asks: What was your HIGH-LOW this week?

BF
