The D Train Premiere

At The D Train premiere at the Arclight Hollywood last night

Last night, I was honored to attend the premiere of The D Train, starring Jack Black, James Marsden and Kathryn Hahn.

Hosted by another co-star of the film, Banana Boat, the Arclight theater was filled with A-listers, while at the same time feeling like an intimate gathering amongst friends.

The after-party at St. Felix was just as fun!

And, talk about product placement! Banana Boat sunscreen was an integral player in the film, as their ad is a connecting force between two of the characters.

Who knew a sunscreen could be a star?

I won’t give away anything else, but be sure to check out The D Train, in theaters, on May 8th!

And don’t forget to wear your Banana Boat sunscreen this summer…

I felt like Cinderella as I came home from attending The 39th Annual Gracie Awards last week. I lay on my bed, staring at the ceiling in my Betsey Johnson gown, A.V. Max Accessories bracelets, Liv Haley rings and Kate Spade earrings and necklace for 45 minutes, thinking about how cool 13-year-old Dawn would think this evening was. I hope that wonder always stays with me – just as much as it has now – as more exciting things come my way.  And I pray that I always have those bouncing butterflies in my belly. I am so thankful to be surrounded by – and inspired by – people who make that happen.

****

Last Tuesday, I was surrounded by a room of utterly inspiring women at The 39th Annual Gracie Awards, hosted by the Alliance For Women in Media, at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. I was there because Moll Anderson – my friend, mentor and host of the weekly radio show for which I’m a correspondent, The Moll Anderson Show – was being honored with her 2nd Gracie Award for Outstanding Host – Lifestyle/Health program.

The guest of honor! I loved celebrating my friend and mentor, Moll Anderson.

Hosted by Aisha Tyler,  the night was full of highlights I will always treasure are Angie Harmon accepting the “Caring is Sexy” award, the beyond-inspiring acceptance letter by creative superwoman Shonda Rimes and Moll’s acceptance speech, which was my absolute favorite.

I love this quote that someone else said. I only wish I could remember who!

“People that live in difficult circumstances need to know that happy endings are possible.”

It is the charge of public personalities and entertainers to do just that.

When accepting her award, Moll said:

“My life changed again. It can happen many times if you’re open.” It’s never too late to be who you’re meant to be.”

Amen.

Cocktail Corner: The Golden Globes Moët Golden Night Cocktail by Aida Mollenkamp

Oh, how I love award season! It has filled me with glee, delight, suspense and excitement ever since I was a tiny girl! So you can bet I’ll be glued to the screen this Sunday night to see who will be taking home the coveted Golden Globes this year.

I had the pleasure of attending a Golden Globes luncheon at the Beverly Hilton this past Thursday to meet and chat with Miss Golden Globes 2014 herself, Sosie Bacon.

The official cocktail of the 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards that they served sent me over the moon.

Moët & Chandon were kind enough to share Aida Mollenkamp’s delicious recipe with me so I might enjoy it on Sunday while watching. And being me, I of course have to share it with you! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did on Thursday  – and be assured that I will be enjoying it again come Sunday!

To the Globes!

MOËT GOLDEN NIGHT

Made to celebrate the glamour and glitz of the awards season, Moët Golden Night is a decidedly sophisticated cocktail of cardamom syrup, pear brandy, and Moët & Chandon Imperial Brut Champagne. Garnished with a “fan” of fresh pear slices, this cocktail is the perfect sipper to toast the festivities.

Makes: 6 cocktails // Enough simple syrup mixture for 8 cocktails

Total Time: 25 minutes

Hands On Time: 5 minutes

INGREDIENTS

1/4 cup unrefined granulated sugar

1/4 cup water

20 whole cardamom pods, crushed using the back of a knife or a mortar and pestle

1/4 cup pear brandy

1 (750 ml) chilled Moët & Chandon Imperial Brut Champagne

2 small ripe Forelle or Seckel pears, for garnish

INSTRUCTIONS

Combine sugar and water in a small saucepan, stir to dissolve the sugar, add the crushed cardamom pods and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Simmer the simple syrup for 5 minutes, then remove from heat and allow to steep and cool for 20 minutes.

Using a fine mesh strainer, strain the simple syrup, discard the seeds and pods, and place the simple syrup into a liquid measuring cup. Add the pear brandy and stir to combine. (The pear-cardamom simple syrup mixture can be made up to 2 days ahead and the Asian pears can be peeled up to 2 hours ahead.)

Just before serving, cut the pear off the core and slice pear lengthwise into 1/8-inch thick slices. (Separate slices into stacks of three and spread slightly to make a fan. If cutting slices ahead of serving time, coat them with a little lemon juice to prevent them from browning.)

To serve, add 1/2 ounce of the pear-cardamom simple syrup mixture to 6 white wine glasses or 6 Champagne coupes (this makes enough syrup for 8 cocktails). Add 4 ounces of chilled Moët & Chandon Imperial Brut Champagne to each glass, filling each glass about halfway. Garnish each glass with three pieces of fanned pear slices and serve.

Perfect pairing of pear, cardamom, brandy & bubbly

Thirsty Thursday: Ciroc Celebrity Cocktail from the GBK Pre-Emmys Luxury Gift Lounge

I had the pleasure of attending the GBK Pre-Emmys Party this past weekend at the W Hotel in Hollywood. With celebrities, fab swag and more, GBK events are always a favorite stop for celebrities – and for me, of course.

I stopped by the bar for a little mid-day cocktail and was delighted when W Hotel Banquet Supervisor, Aimee, crafted this concoction with Ciroc for me.

High-Low 2

Hey guys, last week I started sharing one of my favorite traditions with you: High-Low!

High-Low, Week 2 reminded me that sometimes it’s the littlest joys that bring the most delight!

Here are the The Highs:

1) These vintage-inspired, pastel-pretty dishtowels my Mom gifted me with that bought me in Dallas at Tuesday Morning. They are so vintage-shabby-chic and fit perfectly in my kitchen! Plus, two of them have classic recipes like Strawberry Bread and Sunshine Lemon Cake on them. Looooooveeeee!

Vintage-inspired Dishtowels from my Mom (bought at Tuesday Morning)...

For a steal!!!

Only $1.99 at Tuesday Morning! Wow!

2) Our WWW girl this past week was Alana. And one of my favorite highs this week was attending her 1927-themed 27th birthday soiree at Villain’s Tavern. See a theme here?

Alana celebrating her 27th trip around the sun in 1927-style

Wine in a small mason jar? Yes, please.

3) Having neighbor-friends that I get to spontaneously hang out with. Whether it be watching GCB and having some wine with my dear friend, Matt or getting to hang with the girls in the Tillers’ backyard, spontaneous get-togethers are what summer is all about!

Hanging with good friends in the backyard on a sweet, summer Los Angeles day

Miss Ellie got her hair curled by lovely little Lucy! Notice Lucy laughing with evil glee...

4) Getting to take my beloved “dogter”, Miss Ellie, to my office is an everyday high. So grateful! Here she is with some new friends on the balcony of our Hollywood office:

The Lows:

Well, y’all know I don’t like to dwell on these too much but…

My dad was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He’s okay but still a scare.

I had to miss my sweet friend Meghan’s bridal shower.

I wasn’t able to celebrate one of my besties, Vanessa’s, birthday.

Darn it. Hate it when life gets in the way of fun! But I’m grateful for all of those highs.

Have a week full of highs, you lovely beings!
