Thirsty Thursday: Bastianich Rosato di Refosco (2011)

After the Paris Photo exhibit a few weekends ago, my friend and fave photographer, Amy Opoka, and I were famished! So we decided to stop by Pizzeria Mozza for a little pizza, salad and…WINE, of course!!

We asked our bartender what would be a refreshing choice to pair with our pizza and he had a rosy answer for us.

Bostianich Rosato di Refosco - rosy & refreshing

At $39 a bottle, Bastianich Rosato di Refosco (2011) was on the pricier side for me so we opted for a glass. And I savored that glass with delicious glee. With a heavier weight than you might expect – more like a light red wine – this wine tickled my tastebuds.

With hints of juicy strawberries, zesty orange and floral aromas of rose petals and violets, this is not only a glass of wine but summertime in a glass. A happy compromise for the couple with both a white wine lover and a red wine lover, a bottle of this will keep you in each other’s good favor and keep summertime alive in your hearts – and mouths – all year long.

Thirsty Thursday: The Blackberry Bunny champagne cocktail

For my Classic Southern Easter Dinner this past Sunday, I wasn’t sure how I could top my Blackberry Patch Punch from last year’s fête.

But then it hit me! A champagne cocktail with the same blackberry sweet-tart taste was the perfect pre-dinner cocktail. Hence, The Blackberry Bunny was born!

Now, here it is for you to enjoy at your next spring or summer soiree!

Introducing...The Blackberry Bunny!

The Blackberry Bunny ( by BeautyFrosting)

3 ounces Chilled Champagne

1 ounce G.E. Massenez Creme de Mûre (Blackberry Liqueur)

1 ounce Chilled Trader Joe’s Blackberry Patch Juice

Combine in glass and garnish with a blackberry and mint sprig.

Sip and enjoy.

Thirsty Thursday: Coconut Vanilla Bellini

Cheers to our first Thirsty Thursday of 2013!

To kick off the year, I can’t wait to try this delicious, delicate and darling cocktail!

COCONUT VANILLA BELLINI

What you need:
– 1 bottle of prosecco
– 16 ounces of a coconut juice blend or coconut pureed nectar

For the sugared rims:
– 1/4 cup white sanding sugar
– 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
– 1 vanilla bean

– To prepare the sugared rims, combine sanding sugar, granulated sugar, the scraped seeds of the vanilla bean and the vanilla bean pod in a large bowl and mix. You can do this a few days ahead of time if desired.
– Coat the rims of 8 champagne flutes in something sticky and sweet, such as leftover frosting or marshmallow fluff.
– To make the cocktails, pour 2 ounces of the coconut juice blend or puree into the bottom of the flute. Fill the remaining space with prosecco and stir with a long spoon to mix.
– Serve immediately!

Thirsty Thursday: The Brooklyn Beauty Champagne Cocktail

Perfect for a ladies lunch, a bridal shower or an anytime cocktail, you will feel beautiful sipping your very own Brooklyn Beauty Champagne Cocktail!

St. Germain liqueur (my fave!), champagne and lemon juice make up this beauty of a cocktail! It’s strong and delicious with a zingy kick! Don’t forget the lemon rind as a gorgeous garnish!

Ingredients:

2 pieces lemon rind
5 ounces gin
2 ounces St. Germain
1 1/2 ounces lemon juice
1/2 to 2/3 cup Prosecco or Champagne (for topping off)
2 pieces curled lemon rind or lemon wheels (for garnish)

Directions:
1. Using a vegetable peeler or a knife, peel off 2 pieces of lemon rind, doing your best to get as little pith on the rind as possible. Twist rind over glasses, then wipe the rind around the inside of glass. If twists remain intact, use as garnish, or cut two new pieces and twist around fingers. Alternatively, use sliced lemon wheels.
2. In a shaker, combine gin, St. Germain, and lemon juice. Fill with ice and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds. Strain into glasses and top off with Prosecco or Champagne.
3. Garnish with a lemon twist or wheel and serve.

Thirsty Thursday: Southern Comfort Punch

In honor of the Big 12 showdown this season, I thought I’d honor some of my favorite southern schools by showcasing this Southern Comfort Punch from the magnificent Martha Stewart.

Martha’s Southern Comfort Punch

  • 6 lemons
  • 4 navel oranges
  • 2 six-ounce frozen lemonade, concentrate
  • 1 six-ounce frozen orange juice, concentrate
  • 2 liters lemon-lime soda
  • 1 liter Southern Comfort

Directions

  1. Line two baking sheets with plastic wrap, and set aside. Slice lemons into rounds as thin as possible. Arrange lemon slices in layers on one prepared baking sheet. Repeat with oranges; layer on second baking sheet. Place in the freezer for 2 to 2 1/2 hours, until fruit slices are frozen.
  2. Just before serving, open the cans of frozen lemonade and orange juice, and place the frozen concentrates, whole, in a large punch bowl. Add the soda, Southern Comfort, and several handfuls of ice. Remove frozen fruit slices from freezer, and arrange over the top of punch. Serve immediately.

GO TEAM!!!!

Thirsty Thursday: White Wine recommendation (ooh-la-la!)

Espiral Vinho Verde $3.99 (!!)

I am a red wine lover. It’s my spirited beverage of choice (just see the pic of me in the bathtub in my gallery). But sometimes in the lovely city of Los Angeles, it gets hot -especially with a lack of air conditioning – and chilled, white wine is the only way to quench a parched palate.

So, imagine my delight when I found a CHEEEEAP white wine that I loved!
That is the case with the $3.99 bottle of Espiral Vinho Verde that my sweet neighbor-friends brought me for my Easter dinner. Its crisp, light, refreshing and slightly effervescent taste was just what the 80-degree weather wanted.

And then that tart green apple bite with a drizzle of honey? Deeeeelish!!

It reminds me of a tame, less sweet Green Apple Jolly Rancher. And, y’all, that’s a good thing.

I imagine it would pair delightfully with summer tapas such as ceviche, vermont white cheddar, goat cheese and/or red bean dip. But I’m not a wine expert.

I just know what I like.

And, honey, I like this. I like the taste and I looooove the price!

Head on over to your nearest Trader Joe’s and grab a bottle for your next dinner party!

xoxo,
BF
