Magic Monday: How Marilyn Helped Ella – true beauty

Ella Fitzgerald & Marilyn Monroe

In the 1950s, the popular nightclub, Mocambo would not book Ella Fitzgerald because she was black. Fortunately for Ella, she had a powerful and unlikely benefactor Marilyn Monroe. “I owe Marilyn Monroe a real debt…it was because of her that I played the Mocambo, a very popular nightclub in the ’50s. She personally called the owner of the Mocambo, and told him she wanted me booked immediately, and if he would do it, she promised she would take a front table every night. She told him – and it was true, due to Marilyn’s superstar status – that the press would go wild. The owner said yes, and Marilyn was there, front table, every night. The press went overboard. After that, I never had to play a small jazz club again. She was an unusual woman – and ahead of her time and she didn’t know it.” – Ella Fitzgerald

Whatcha Wearin’ Wednesday (WWW): Samantha and MAC Ruby Woo

Our “My Week With Marilyn” glamorous giveaway is showing up everywhere in my life!

I was shopping in the vast land they call the Beverly Center, last Friday, when this super-cool pixie of a girl, and her perfect pin-up red lipstick, caught my eye for today’s Whatcha Wearin’ Wednesday (WWW):

WWW: Samantha wearing MAC Ruby Woo

Here’s how it went down:

BF (doubling back like a weirdo): “Hi, sorry to bother you. I have a beauty blog and I loooove your lipstick! What’s your name?”

Samantha (seeming unsure of aforementioned, strange, stalking BF): “Okay. Samantha.”

BF: “Here’s my card. Whatcha wearin’?”

Samantha: “Ruby Woo by MAC.”

MAC Ruby Woo Lipstick

BF (laughing, yet again, like a weirdo): “Oh my gosh. That is the third time I’ve asked someone what they’re wearing and they said MAC’s Ruby Woo. I think I’m gonna have to get it! It’s the perfect pin-up red. Mind if I take your picture for my Whatcha Wearin’ Wednesday post?”

Samantha: “Sure. But I haven’t reapplied it in hours or anything, though.”

BF: “Oh honey, you don’t need to! It looks perfect!” (Snaps pic on iPhone)

BF: “Thanks so much, Samantha & check out!”

We said our goodbyes and I couldn’t help but feel that Marilyn herself was watching over me as I continue that everlasting quest for the perfect red lipstick.

It’s not a matter of not finding it, though! It’s a matter of finding soooo many slightly different shades that are just purrrfect and from that, establishing an arsenal of red lipsticks perfect for your beautifully individual personality and pout.

It’s a pretty fun quest to be on….especially with Marilyn helping me out (wink, wink)!

Happy Wednesday, beauties!
You never know when I might stop you to ask “What-cha wearin’?”

BF QOD: Moment with Marilyn #4 – the most inspiring words yet

As we get closer to our BeautyFrosting “My Week With Marilyn” glamorous giveaway, we have our Moment with Marilyn #4 from the lady, herself. If you haven’t entered yet, click on the link above to find out how! And stay tuned all week or more inspiring words from our Marilyn Monroe:

Moment with Marilyn #4: "I believe everything happens for a reason..."

“I believe everything happens for a reason. People change so you can learn to let go, things go wrong so you can appreciate them when they’re right. You believe lies so that you will eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes, good things fall apart so better things can fall together.”
(Marilyn Monroe)
Oh beauties, this one always makes me a little sniffly. I’ve had quite a doozy of a year. A year that started, with me feeling like I was in a cocoon, and now leaves me feeling, well, a little butterfly’ish. It isn’t those moments, when you’re on top of the world, when you need a quote like this. It’s when you’re at the bottom of the world just wondering if you’re ever gonna get through it.
Guess what I’m here, as living proof, to tell you?
And you will be better having lived in that cocoon for a spell than if you’d simply been a butterly all along.
BF Asks: Now that I bared my soul, what does this quote mean to you, beauty?

BF QOD: Moment with Marilyn Monroe #1

"I'm selfish, impatient, and a little insecure. I make mistakes. I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best." (Marilyn Monroe)

May it serve as a reminder to us all.

Whether we need to be open to someone kind, get rid of someone unkind or just be a little more forgiving of ourselves: yes, yes and yes.

BF Asks:  Can you relate to the magical words of Marilyn Monroe?
