Beauty Beat on The Moll Anderson Show: Bridal Beauty 6/29/13

Every week, I stop by the “Moll house” on The Moll Anderson Show to bring Moll my Beauty Beat. On BeautyFrosting this week, I am sharing with y’all my Beauty Beat: Bridal Beauty. Wedding expert and Lifestylist, Moll, and I discuss wedding makeup…and a whoooole lot more!

My main tip for brides? It’s all about feeling your beautiful best and smiling for the camera. Pictures are lasting so don’t be afraid to step it up a bit but, pleeeease, still look like yourself. Remember, you wanna look like you on the best day of your life – your “beautiful best”!

And as a Dallas wedding photographer’s daughter and seeing thousands of wedding here’s the one thing I learned: The things that don’t go according to plan – sometimes make the best memories. So leave room for those. Perfection doesn’t equal perfect memories. As I like to say, “Do your best, leave the rest!”

And without further ado, here’s the link:

Mailbox Monday: Dear Dawn – Lip Color fit for a Fall Bride

Dear Dawn,

I am getting married in 3 weeks and there are lots of events coming up in anticipation of the big day. That sounds great, right? Well, I have one little problem. I need lip color help stat! We have pictures coming up and I have no idea what my lips should wear. I have long dark brown hair, brown eyes and fair skin. Thoughts?

(Meg F)

Hi Meg,
What an exciting time in your life! Congratulations!! And it’s the perfect time to discover your signature lip color. I always say that your wedding day should be you at your beautiful best. You don’t want to try to look like someone else but simply be the best version of yourself. That’s who he fell in love with, after all, isn’t it?

Also, it’s good to establish an everyday shade that makes you feel like the pretty beauty you are and then, if you decide, you can step up the color a bit for the big day. But for engagement parties/showers/rehearsal dinner/photos, etc., I think it’s good to aim for subtle color.

So, on that note, let’s talk shades. From the details you provided, I would suggest trying a blue-based pink, lilac or a sheer-cherry popsicle-fizzy red. Here are a few that you simply cannot go wrong with:

Blue-Based Pinks:

Lipstick Queen Glossy Pencil in Crime ($20)

This true-bridal pink is sure to please for pictures!

Tarte Lipsurgence Natural Lip Tint in Amused ($24)

Sheer-Cherry Popsicle-Fizzy Red – by fizzy, I mean shimmering, of course!

Tarte Lipsurgence Lip Luster in Fever ($24)

Tarte Lipsurgence Lip Luster in Fever

Try these shades out over the next few months. When you wear a color that makes you feel both comfortable and pretty and that brings out your best features, you know you’ve found the “right one”. It’s a lot like love that way!

BF Tip: Take pics with your trial lip colors on phone see how you look in varying shades of light. You might find that the color you love to wear everyday (like that bare nude that looks oh-so-natural) might just wash you out in pictures. See what color makes you glow and look like the happy bride-to-be that you truly are!

Enjoy this magical time, Meg! And please send pics of your lovely lip colors along the way!

xoxo,

Dawn

Lipstick Queen for a Day!

I had to write about Lipstick Queen today because I am getting ready to go to Barneys today to meet Lipstick Queen’s founder, Poppy King!

Not only do I get to meet Poppy, lip guru and founder of Lipstick Queen, but I’ll also get to learn what my lips reveal about me and shades that will best express my personality in a complimentary lip reading from Poppy herself. Yay, yay, yay!!!

I am a total cheeseball and get really excited about things like this.

So, who is Poppy King?

Well, here’s who she is to me.

My first experience, with Poppy’s products, was at Barneys New York Northpark in Dallas. It was right by Neiman Marcus and, while our family were more Neiman’s than Barneys, I would venture in as a pre-teen to peruse all the pretty colors in the makeup department, while my Mom shopped at Williams Sonoma.

Shine lip gloss always caught my attention. Especially the cherry-popsicle-red-lacquer-looking one. It was in this lovely vintage-inspired acrylic pot with this font I loved that said “Shine”. Well, sugar, I wanted to shine!!!

I think it made me feel kind of fancy and shiny just holding it.

At some point, a makeup artist would kindly ask me if I needed anything and 14-year-old gawky me would say “No thank you” with stars in my eyes and a lust in my heart for Poppy’s brilliant colors.

Now, Poppy has Lipstick Queen and I looooove their glosses and lipsticks.

One of my favorites in my beauty kitchen is the natural, 1970s/1980s-reminiscent Jean Queen ($18). Oh, Pam on Dallas would have just LOVED this!

Its nonstick formula is a sheer neutral berry hue that works for every skin tone and looks extremely natural on the lip. Best of all, beauties? It’s not sticky.
And, you knooooow, how I love that!

Here, I am wearing it with Hourglass Trace Lip Pencil in Secret ($28).

No doubt, I will let you know how it goes!

Happy weekend!

xoxo,

BF
