Saturday Social Hour: Hometown Dallas Visit, Part 1

I always have the best time when I go back to my hometown of Dallas.

Besides my family, friends and the fabulous FOOD (!!), it’s where my whole story began. The place where I fell in love with makeup, skincare, baking and antiques; in other words, all things BeautyFrosting!

In my multi-part Saturday Social Hour, I am detailing my visits, tastes and experiences while visiting my beloved hometown. It’ll also clue you in to some Dallas-based posts that I have coming up for you.  Yeehaw!

The week started out with a fun weekend with my family and my brother’s friends & families from college:

BF, Mom, brother David, old friends and some new little friends

Next up was one of the main reasons for my trip – my dear friend, Jenny’s bridal shower (more details on that later):

BF, Bride-to-Be, Jenny & Allison: High School Best Friends *In the spirit of things, I wore green and pink because I wanted to honor her wedding colors!

Next, I drove out to Lancaster, Texas where my favorite bakery & baker, in the world, is – THE LOVIN’ OVEN! Stay tuned to a post about it coming up soon!

Next, I stopped by Neiman Marcus Northpark to see my first & favorite salesperson/beauty guru/friend/former coworker, Lori Nelson:

Lori introduced me to my lifelong beauty love affair with Creme de La Mer. I am forever in her debt!

Next, I stopped by Snider Plaza to visit my favorite home deco shop, Uptown Country Home

Owner/resident style expert/artist extraordinaire, Jenny Grumbles, always has the best finds! I always end up shipping my finds back to California because I can’t bear to be without them. My mom and I bought a coffee table but look at this super chic & snazzy custom headboard we saw there:

Next, I headed back to Northpark Mall to Nordstrom to visit with Tres Brown – a renowned makeup artist for Burberry, Tom Ford and Christian Dior:

And no trip to Dallas would be complete without MULTIPLE visits to my favorite Tex-Mex restaurant and home-away-from-home, Mi Cocina:

Along with the best margaritas in all the land:

Okay, beauties, that concludes Hometown Dallas Visit, Part 1. Hope you enjoyed it!

Let me know if you have any suggestions for places I should visit on my next trip home!

And tune in next week for Part 2 and see what delicious discoveries I had in Dallas.

BF Asks: Have you ever been to Dallas?

WWW: Big Bow trend spotted in Dallas

Hi beauties,

I am in my hometown, Dallas, this week and there is one trend that is not easy to ignore.

BIG BOWS!!

I mean REALLLLLLY BIG BOWS!

When I watched an episode of Gossip Girl back in January, I actually noted to myself that hair bows were gonna be making a biiiiig comeback. And, girl-oh-girl, are they!!

No matter where I have gone, in Dallas, this week, big bows have been there too.

At dinner at Mi Cocina:

And at breakfast the next morning:

WWW: Big Bows at Original Pancake House in Dallas

So, our WWW girls this week are actually bows and the girls who love them! Particularly 3 beautiful ESD (Episcopal School of Dallas – my alma mater) 6th graders I had the pleasure of visiting with at Mi Cocina. Here’s how it went down.

BF: Hey girls! I would love to feature you 3 as my WWW girls on BeautyFrosting. I feel like bows have really made a comeback!

WWW Ashley & Abby: They have! They’re really popular! Do you sell like really big bows on BeautyFrosting?

BF: Sadly, no. Sorry!

WWW Ashley (somewhat disappointed): Oh. That’s too bad.

BF: Where do you buy your bows?

WWW Ashley & Abby: Well, Stride Rite has really big bows. And we get them on Amazon. And Forever 21! And Albertson’s too!

BF: Well, thanks so much for being our WWW girls! Y’all are gorgeous and already trendsetters in the making! Please say hi to Mr.Kimball for me!

These girls were so safe (asking their parents for permission), smart, charming and well-spoken that I feel like our future is gonna be a good place to be.

xoxo,
BF

Thirsty Thursday: Thirsty Hands call for Caldrea Palmarosa Wild Mint Hand Lotion

As you read this, I am up in the air homeward bound for Dallas, well, hometown-bound.

I am heading home for a busy week filled with celebrations with friends. And along with me on my journey is my maltese Miss Ellie (of course), memories of my younger days in Dallas and some very dry hands. Ouch.

What I wouldn’t do to sneak on my Caldrea Palmarosa Wild Mint hand lotion for the trip!

Caldrea Palmarosa Wild Mint Hand Lotion (11 oz. for $10.50)

But, alas, it’s too big to go through security. So I will make do with using my facial moisturizer for my hands…for 4 hours, at least.

But, you can try it and love it as much as I do, anytime!

Caldrea Palmarosa Wild Mint Hand Lotion is everything your hands crave!

Shea Butter, aloe vera, glycerin and essential oils soothe and smooth your multi-tasking mains (that’s “hands” in French!).
Perfect to keep by the kitchen sink (for post-dishwashing) or in the office, like I do, to quench my parched hands while I’m busy typing away.

Plus, its pleasing, yet-not-overpowering scent, will conjure up memories of summer.

And daffodils.

Hmmm…maybe that’s just me.

Try it for yourself and see how long it lasts as everyone around you tries to soak up some of the minty palmarosa magic for their own palms!

BF
