The Way We Wore: Coachella 2014

I went to Coachella last weekend – and, my-oh-my, the fashion! While I definitely wasn’t the biggest risk-taker at the 3-day annual music festival, I was inspired to step outside of my comfort zone and embrace my inner boho hippie.

So what did I pack?

Packing for Coachella included a Trina Turk sunhat, a Lolli Swim swimmie, Garrett Leight sunglasses, Hello Apparel tee, Just Fab Cayte wedges, Jesslyn Blake Beatrice bag, Nordstrom Savvy rompers, One Hope Wine sparkling wine and more!

Besides a bunch of rompers, jumpsuits and sundresses from Nordstrom (in the always-delightfully-surprising Savvy department), I relied heavily on these fashion superstars:

1. Kyu Mélange Eclair Bag in Camel ($795): Y’all, I love this bag SO much that I’m devoting a whole post to it. I felt chic, elegant  - and, best of all – it actually made me a better packer. Cannot wait to share this – and more – from this new line with you!!

My new love - the Kyu Mélange Eclair Traveller in Camel ($795) - also pictured my Just Fab Cayte wedges - here I'm getting ready on Day 3 - Sunday - to (sadly) leave Palm Springs

2. My Lolli Swimwear Floral Peplum One-Piece ($40): This is the ultimate feminine-meets-cool swimmie. I felt cute. I felt sexy. And I felt downright flirty. Thanks, Lolli!

In love with Lolli Swim - pictured here my Lolli Swim Floral Peplum One Piece ($40), Trina Turk sunhat and Garrett Leight sunnies

3. My Hello Apparel “Hello California” tee ($22): I’m obsessed with this tee because a) it’s comfy, b) it’s super cool looking and c) it actually makes me look a tad bit cooler. Any shirt that has that kind of power is a must in my closet!

4) Sparkly Soul headbands ($15): With a flash of glitter, they’re instantly glamorous while marrying well with the laid back, boho-chic vibe of Coachella. And not only are they great for a festival, summer days or date nights, they also are PERFECT for your sweatiest workout. With a velvet underbelly, they stay in place while being uber-comfy.

5) Trina Turk sunhat: All I can say here is that it made me feel like Jackie O meets Babe Paley in a Slim Aarons book – which is all you ever want to feel like in Palm Springs

I had such a ball dressing up – and I’ll be back with more pics from what I wore to all the parties! So stay tuned for that! As for how I’m adjusting to being back in reality – well, if you can call L.A. “reality”?

Instead of leaving my free-spirited self behind in Palm Springs, I decided she should come back with me and stay all spring and summer long! It’s gonna be a super fun sunny summer, y’all!

Coachella 2014: Pre-Coachella Primping Picks

Coachella Prep Time! *Feather headdress by Helen Kathleen Phillips

Coachella is upon us – the festival responsible for giving birth to summer’s hottest beauty and fashion trends. So how does one prep for a weekend in shorts, rompers, sundresses and swimsuits. The answer? Verrrrrrrry carefully.

In the midst of all the whimsical style we will see there, there is only one way that everyone needs to look: Golden, glowing, fresh-faced and FABULOUS!

So how do I get to looking like that with only a few hours to spare? Here we go. My top Pre-Coachella Primping Picks:

1) I start with Teadora Body Polish ($40) in Dawn (naturally) which is loaded with moisturizers and antioxidants and improves the elasticity and texture of skin. Since I’ve been told by some of my friends that their 17-year-old DAUGHTERS are going, I wanted to make sure that my skin looks as young as possible even if my body may not!

2) My favorite new trick is to use the Dermasuri Deep Exfoliating Mitt ($19.99) which helps your body scrub of choice and oils penetrate more deeply into the skin. And it works to prepare your skin for moisturization and -in my case – self-tanner which is what I did to prepare next.
3) Who doesn’t want to look like a Victoria’s Secret angel? After all, did you know that the VS angel’s hairstyle is the most requested hairstyle at blowdry salons? Well, I can at least tell you how to get their golden goddess tan. I love the Victoria’s Secret Self-Tanning Tinted Spray with 360 degree continuous application ($15). It sprays evenly and lets me see where I apply so there are no oopsies. I mean, ain’t nobody got time for oopsies when you’re trying to look like a supermodel! I emphasize, tryyyyying.
4) To get that fresh-faced glow that’s a must for Coachella, I turned to Sjal Kashmir Saphir (Restore) Perfecting Maskv($150). Perfecting, you say? Gimmesomeofthat. This mask reduces pore size while upping the skin’s oxygen intake all while lifting and firming the skin. Perfect, indeed!
5) Next up – after my tan had dried a bit – I hydrated my skin a bit for that dewy glow with The Honest Company’s Organic Body Oil ($9.95). Its soothing ingredients calm and hydrate skin while leaving the gift of a subtle sheen.
6) As for my mani, I was torn. The thing with Cochella, it is young, hip and fresh so your manicure needs to be that, as well. I got a mani at Côte before I left and I adore their nail polishes – particularly their #1 – which is a sheer, creamy peachy melon. Getting a mani there It feels like you’re at the beach! Then, for a little surprise splash of fun, I added 2 coats of L’Oreal Pop The Bubbles nail polish ($5.99) on the ring finger of each hand. Pop The Bubbles is a sparkling, sea-foamy turquoise with silver glitter in it. So it’s just the right amount of fun without looking like I broke into a 5-year-old’s nail polish – because that would not be Coachella-cool.
5) Prepping your hair for a weekend at Coachella is a must! Since Coachella is a little reminiscent of Woodstock, there isn’t a lot of hairwashing going on. There are braid bars and flower crown bars ready to add a little whimsy to your hair. So to get my hair super clean before I left, I relied on my trusty Tresemme Keratin Smooth shampoo/conditioner combo  to keep my hair clean, shiny, smooth, bouncy and full of life.
6) Lastly, I prepped by getting into the spirit with a braid. When I went to the Assembly Braid bar to get a crown braid ($30), they specifically told me how shiny my hair was! And I have to tell you, I am not someone who loves wearing my hair up (I always feel like I look like a boy, don’t ask) but I will be visiting Assembly Salon for a crown braid again when I need to spice up my look a bit. I felt like Princess Leia – and we know dudes loooove Princess Leia.

Here's one of the braids I was treated to at Assembly in preparation for Coachella. There's ribbon in there! RIBBON, I SAY!!!!

Okay, I’m off for the weekend, y’all! And I can’t wait to come back next week and share with you my packing list, what I wore and what trends I spotted! COOOOOAAAAAACHHHHEEEEELLLLAAAAA, BAAAAAAABY!!!
