Dear Dawn,

Help. I know that sounds desperate but, seriously. My skin is dry and dull. It looks sad and unhappy. Please help me make it smile again. p.s. I don’t have a big budget here.

Dear Allie F.,

Oh, I know what you’re going through!

You need oil, sugar. You need oil to run a car, bake a cake and you need oil to make your skin healthy.

You will hear me say this a lot: oil makes a huge difference!
If you have dryness, dullness, eczema or unexplained breakouts, this will help you, more than anything.

Oil your insides. Take a good fish oil (I prefer Schiff MegaRed Krill oil 300 mg/once a day). Done.

Oil your outsides.

I will be detailing a number of oils here on BF. I can’t live without my oils.

But, to start, I would urge you to head over to Trader Joe’s and try a budget-friendly option first. Trader Joe’s Vitamin E oil is great for any budget.

I’m not saying it’s your answer, but it’s definitely a solid start.

To apply, drop a drop or two on your palm. Rub your fingers together to warm the oil. (This “bakes” all the goodness out of it into your hands, in my humble opinion).

Press the oil into your face, starting on your cheekbones moving up to under the delicate eye area.

Press the oil onto the rest of your face to where you have a nice, light glow. Then, take the remainder on your hands, and rub onto elbows, knees or just rub your hands together.

Instant hand moisturizer!

By applying a small drop to your face, in the morning, you are perfectly primed for your SPF/foundation, whatever your fancy, and (bonus!) you get a natural glow!

Trader Joe’s Vitamin E oil is $3.99 and is a great place to start when you’re on a tight budget.

I have suggested this to many clients and friends, as a starting point, and after seeing the results, they have become oil devotees.

You can buy at www.traderjoes.com stores. Let me know if you can’t get it, where you are, and we’ll find a way.

  2. Dawn suggested Trader Joe’s Vitamin E Oil to me and my skin immediately responded to it. The next morning I saw a difference. It is now part of my nighttime regimen. Thanks Dawn!

    • Thanks for the experience testimonial, Amy! Love that you loved it. Love Trader Joe’s vitamin E oil! If you ever find yourself needing a different oil formulation/texture/treatment, etc., let me know and I will give you options. Have a beautiful day! xoxo, BF!

    • Thanks for reading and commenting, Amy! I am soooo happy it worked for you! If you want more oil suggestions, keep reading here every day and you’ll hear about all of my favorite oils! Cheers to beautiful, glowing, well-hydrated skin! xoxo, BF

  3. I love oil for my skin too! My favorite is Liz Earle superskin concentrate. It’s not on the same budget-level as the TJ’s vitamin E oil, but it gives your skin such a nice dewy finish and makeup smooths on so well. I will have to try the TJ’s oil for everyday and travel though! Thanks!

    • Sarah B., Thanks so much for testifying about your love for oil, too! It is THE ESSENTIAL skincare recipe ingredient, in my beauty book! And, now, I must try Liz Earle superskin concentrate, too! xoxo, BF
